KUEI DORMAN
As a young girl growing up in Taiwan, the Art of Chinese Brush
Painting influenced Kuei Dorman, early on. Mostly selfself-taught,
Kuei devoted herself to studying and perfecting this technique of
the Ancient Masters.
After moving to Japan in 1970,
1970, Kuei expanded her studies and
pursued formal training in not only Chinese Brush Painting but
also SumiSumi-e. Throughout her twelve years in Japan, Kuei began to
develop her own unique style; A combination of Eastern and
Western influences, where she has married the use of bold and
vibrant color with the delicate simplicity of the Oriental form.
In creating her paintings, Kuei has retained all the traditional
values, which has sustained this Art Form for centuries. She
grinds the ink sticks and uses the
the finest oriental mineral and
vegetable dyes. Using natural materials and original techniques,
Kuei hand processes the fine silk and rice paper on which she
paints.
Since 1987 Kuei has resided in the Mandarin community of North
East Florida. She is an active
active member of the Heshin SumiSumi- e
Society as well as the SumiSumi-e Society of America. She exhibits
her Art in many fine Art Shows and has been recognized with
numerous awards at juried Art Festivals throughout the country.
