Numerical Simulation: «Application in the flows in pasty circles» PESSELON Brieuc Research Center of Lafarge This internship realized within the Research center of Lafarge ® (LCR) to Saint Quentin Fallavier in Isère aims at simulate, using the software of computational fluids dynamic: Gambit and Fluent, the flows of non-Newtonian fluids plaster and concrete sought in various processes: mixer and mini carried cement mixer. These studies were realized within the framework of an approach of optimization of industrial processes based on the implementation of tools of numerical simulation. The Research center Lafarge introduced a study on the functioning of a mixer of plaster cast and on that of a mini carried cement mixer. The report will contain two big parts and will allow Lafarge to arrest the physical phenomena which appear during these flows: heap of plaster cast, zones of ebb, concrete relapse, air bubbles. The first one will concern the study of a mixer of large-sized tall plaster cast. This study follows upon the study already realized by the company Ansys for Lafarge at the end of 2007, and in the training course realized by Mr Abi Akar in 2008. The mixer presents this time dimensions very superior to those used previously. The objective of the study is to know if the necessary calculation time is reduced during the change of scale. The progressive filling of the chamber of the mixer was studied, quite as the flows of plaster in the interfaces of entrance and exit. Three different simulations were realized by leaving a simple case to arrive towards a more complex study. The second part will concern the simulation of a mini carried cement mixer, called collectively "mini toupie ". The purpose will be to understand the behavior and the kneading of the concrete contained in the tank according to the geometry of pales, rotation speed of the tank, the filling of the concrete and finally the rheology of the concrete. Furthermore, a particular attention was carried in the greatnesses which it is possible to obtain during these studies: couple, rate of cutting and parietal constraint. The simulation will include four under parts, by making vary these characteristics in an approach of optimization and of fiabilisation of the calculations.
