THIS WEEK WE WILL BEGIN LENT SEASON: WHAT IS LENT?
Lent is a 40-day period leading up to Easter, beginning with Ash Wednesday. This year, Ash
Wednesday is on February 10th. Lent is known as a penitential season. That means it is an opportunity
to examine your life, give your struggles to God, and invite him to help you become the-best-versionof-yourself. In particular, there is an increased focus on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, All these
spiritual exercises help prepare us for the celebration of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

SWEETHEART SPAGHETTI DINNER: Treat your sweetheart to a delicious pre-Valentine’s Day meal this
Saturday, February 13th, at the Maxville Arena Hall. St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church is hosting their
Sweetheart Spaghetti Dinner running from 4 to 7pm. Regular as well as vegetarian spaghetti sauce;
gluten-free pasta is available. Caesar salad, garlic bread, and a variety of desserts round
out the supper. Cost: $10 for adults, and $5 each for children 12 years of age and under.
You can pick up some great home-made baked goods at the Glengarry Girls Choir Bake
Table. They are raising funds for their trip this summer to the Antigonish Highland Games.
