WELCOME TO MRS MONNIER’S ENGLISH CLASS !!!
I wish you all the best for this school year. ☺
Today we talked about the organization of the class about this site MY CUPPA T (remember why it is
called like that? !!) and about the Cambridge Certificate you will take this year
Then we played a game! The Culture Quiz; you had to find the correct answer then take notes of
what was written in the powerpoint presentation
Homework : complete you identity form + find the questions corresponding to the answers that you
wrote ( minimum 16 questions !!)
the government with Nick Clegg/ ou encore : who are the Prime Minister and the deputy Prime
Do you understand? !!!
Don’t forget to send me an e mail !! with your name and class and to have your parents sign the note
which is in your “correspondence book” HAVE A NICE WEEKEND !!!

your binders)
Here is an example of description that can help you!!
A home "guard dragon" robot has been unveiled in Japan. It is composed of 4 legs and it can sense
smoke and alert its owners to a smouldering fire – thanks to a mobile phone text message.
The Banryu was developed by two companies, Sanyo and Tmsuk. It is one metre long, 80 centimetres
high, 70 centimetres wide and weighs 40 kilogrammes. It can move at a top speed of 15 metres per
minute.
The guard dragon is capable of walking over 10-centimetre gaps or climb a 15-centimetre high step
using sensors located on its legs.
it will enable owners to switch the Banyru into any of three operating modes. The remote control mode
allows users to send commands and receive information via mobile phone.
In care-taking mode, the robot will patrol the house and report back if it senses someone walking close
by, or the scent of smoke. In pet mode, Banryu will act like a pet dog, obeying commands such as "sit"
or "paw", Sanyo says.
Thursday November 3rd

THE English
The queen lives in Buckingham

Homework / DO THE RESEARCH WORK EXERCISE 4 (A+B)
Thursday 19th
After a recap of the previous lesson we corrected your questions
You could find the solutions here!!!
http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/sitemap.html
a- Queen Elizabeth and her husband live alone in Buckingham Palace.WRONG Lives with Prince
Philip her husband, but with her son Andrew Duke of York/ and Edward Earl Of Wessex ; her
other children are Anne and Charles
b- Queen Elizabeth spends most of her summer holiday in her residence in Scotland RIGHT in
BALMORAL
c- Fox Hunting is now forbidden in Britain. WRONG, on Boxing Day it is allowed ; but no longer
use dogs
d- The Queen’s foot guards ‘hats are made of bear skin. RIGHT before the French wore them;
they are very high to impress their enemies – 46 cm high
e- The Queen’s” beefeaters” refer to the fact the British like eating beef. WRONG they are
Yeomen wardens : the guards of the Tower of London; this nickname comes from the French
buffetiers and also because they used to be paid with beef
B-QUESTIONS ANSWER ON A COPY
a- Why do the British drive on the left?
when people passed each other on the road they should be in the best possible position
to use their sword to protect themselves. As most people are right handed they therefore
keep to their left
then in France things changed with the revolution : the peasants were on the right and
the aristocracy took over in their carriages on the left…so after the revolution peasants
and aristocracy drove on the right (other explanation is Napoleon was left handed so his
army walked on the right
+ big wagons with people sitting on the left horse so that the driver could use his right
arm to lash them so it was logical to drive on the right if you were sitting on the left (to
look at the other people’s wheels)
No monster wagons in Britain; simple horse so sat in a seat on the wagon
b-
What are these typically British dishes (=plats)? “Toad in a hole”? “Bangers and mash” ?
“black pudding”?
Sausage in a sort of cake/Sausages and mashed potatoes/Blood sausage

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 9TH
Only 6 pupils were present so we went to the multimedia lab to practice for the Cambridge
Certificate.
You did some exercises to practice for the written exam and I organized a mock exam( =
examen blanc) for the oral
-
L’épreuve se passe par 2 devant 2 examinateurs
-
Partie 1 : l’examinateur demande aux deux candidats : « what is your surname = nom
de famille » ? « can you spell it ? » « do you study English » ? « How long have you
been studying English » ? “ do you like it? Why? “ What do you like doing during your
free time? “ et… A SAVOIR : I like/ I enjoy/ I’m interested in +VING ; cette partie dure
environ 2 à 3 minutes
-
EX : you have been invited at
a party by your teacher, what presents will you buy ? Discuss .Cette partie dure 3
agree with you/ You are right/ I disagree with you/ I think you are wrong”
-
fiche « how to describe a picture ». Cette partie dure 3 minutes
-
été ; Cette partie dure 3 minutes ; A SAVOIR : to my mind, in my opinion, as far as I
