FROM THE
The board of directors was very
proud to start off the year with
our honorary members joining us
at our annual general meeting.
All present enjoyed a
presentation by Manny Pizarro
on his achievement of summiting
Mount Everest. The foundation
was honored to be a part of this
exciting project.
The meeting also saw the
adoption of our updated by-laws,
setting the stage for the growth
and evolution we looked forward
to experiencing.
With the formation of our
Strategic Planning Committee we
gave a lot of thought to the
mission, methods and future of
the foundation. We look forward
to continuing those efforts,
involving more board members.
We all agree, though, that we are
here for our students and that by
providing grants to schools, we
can enrich the learning
experience of many in our
community and while the
modalities may change, we
continue to provide funding for

projects that cannot be

PRESIDENT
Le conseil d’administration a
été très fier de commencer
l’année en présence des
membres honoraires lors de
notre assemblée générale
annuelle. Toutes les personnes
présentes ont pu apprécier
l’exposé de Manny Pizarro sur
son exploit au sommet du Mont
Everest. Ce fut un honneur
pour la Fondation de participer
à ce projet passionnant.
C’est également lors de cette
assemblée que nos nouveaux
règlements ont été adoptés,
préparant la voie à la
croissance et à l’évolution que
nous désirons insuffler à la
Fondation.

À la suite de la formation de
notre comité de planification
stratégique,
nous
avons
beaucoup réfléchi à la mission,
aux pratiques et à l’avenir de la
Fondation.
Nous
nous
proposons de poursuivre ce
travail, en impliquant plus de
membres
du
conseil
d’administration.
Nous sommes tous d’accord
que nous sommes là pour les
élèves et qu’en offrant des
subventions aux écoles nous
pouvons enrichir l’expérience
d’apprentissage de plusieurs et,
bien que les modalités puissent
changer, nous continuerons à
financer des projets qui ne
pourraient pas se réaliser dans
le cadre du programme
d’études traditionnel.
Nous sommes reconnaissants
du soutien continu de la
commission scolaire qui nous
procure un bureau et des
ressources, et de celui de ses
employés
dont
plusieurs
agissent comme bénévoles
lors
des
nombreux
événements
que
nous
organisons durant l’année.

OBJECTIVES
OF
Visibility
Efforts to increase visibility
continued throughout the
year. Our first efforts included
expanding the distribution list
of the grants applications to
include the chairs of staff
council in all our schools.
Teachers are key to
suggesting
grant
opportunities. We therefore
wanted to directly engage the
stakeholders with the most
direct responsibility for our
students' experience.
The Margaret Manson
Learning Award was
given to students from 14
high schools and adult &
vocational centres,
recognizing their success
in graduating while
overcoming significant
handicaps or hardships
The new alliances with Bank
of Montreal and Light a
Dream will hopefully result in
more visibility. Stationary and
business cards were
postponed because of several
changes in the board of
directors, but are still on the
list of projects planned.
Our participation in high
school graduations this year,
presenting 14 Manson
awards to graduates who
have overcome significant
ACHIEVEMENT
handicaps or hardships to
succeed in school, is truly a
heartwarming experience for
our Directors, but also allows
the school community to
become aware of the
Foundation.
Establish the Fashion Show
as a major annual event
Once again, Hollie D. Forest
put on a memorable show.
The sold out event included a
silent auction, a raffle and
other vendor displays,
attracting a wide audience.
Sponsorship was successfully
solicited for the program. The
Fashion Show raised more
than twice the amount as
previous years and is certainly
an event we would like to do
again.
Increase Revenues from the
Community
We have sought out the
expertise of professionals in
fundraising, which has
caused us to rethink some of
our
strategies
and
OF
approaches.
This is an
ongoing process.
We
continue to seek out experts
in the field to guide us.
Continue to improve
processes
This goal will remain ongoing.
With new members of our
board of directors, we
continue to challenge the
status quo and make
improvements in all areas.
Our strategic planning
subcommittee has started the
process of looking at the role
of our directors and best
utilizing the resources at our
disposal, to maximize our
fundraising potential.
They
have also discussed methods
of bringing in additional
outside monies into the
foundation.
Again, the experience of our
Managing Director and some
of our Directors is invaluable
to us.
NOUVELLES INITIATIVES
La Maison de Rêve BMO
Cette année, la Fondation a
été sollicitée par la Fondation
de la Banque de Montréal
pour devenir partenaire dans
le cadre du tirage de la
Maison de Rêve BMO. La
fondation a vendu des billets
de tirage et a gardé la moitié
des profits. Sans grand effort,
nous avons pu ainsi ajouter
1400 $ dans nos coffres.
Illuminez un Rêve
La Fondation est très fière
d’être un supporteur du projet
Illuminez un Rêve. Ce projet
permet
à
nos
élèves
handicapés parmi les plus
âgés du secteur jeunes, qui
ont le droit de fréquenter nos
écoles jusqu’à l’âge de 21
ans, de développer des
connaissances pratiques en
exploitant une entreprise qui
fabrique et qui vend des
chandelles. La Fondation a
aidé ce groupe en payant un
mois de loyer pour le
magasin, et a aussi acheté
300 chandelles pour les offrir
en cadeau pendant le tournoi
de golf. Les élèves ont
travaillé très fort et ont
dépassé nos attentes dans la
préparation
de
nos
chandelles – jusqu’à un
emballage spécial « golfeur ».

Imagine the most perfect day
you can for a game of golf.
Imagine 265 golfers and
another 30 volunteers
gathered together on this
most perfect day. Imagine a
wonderful brunch, lots of
laughs, sunshine, some
amazing golf shots, an
elegant dinner and gifts and
prizes for all. You’ve just
imagined the 9th Annual
Pearson
Educational
Foundation Golf Tournament.
Add to this that we raised
over $56,000 and you begin
to understand what it’s all
about.
We are so grateful to our
sponsors, our golfers—both
employees and guests, and to
the many volunteers who put
this day together. The golf
tournament remains the
significant fundraiser of the
year for the Foundation and
this year’s
was indeed
just
a
perfect day.

COLLECTE
DE FONDS POUR LA
C O M M U N AU T É
Une grande partie du rôle de
la Fondation au sein de la
Commission scolaire LesterB.-Pearson est de fournir aux
écoles les moyens de faire
des collectes de fonds, d’offrir
des reçus officiels pour dons
Born to Read
de bienfaisance et de verser
des fonds aux organismes de
bienfaisance.
Plusieurs de nos écoles ont
eu la chance d’amasser des
fonds substantiels, leur
permettant de répondre aux
besoins particuliers de leurs
communautés.
La FEP procure des services à
Le goût de lire, un groupe
d’éducateurs retraités logé au
Centre d’apprentissage
communautaire Riverdale, qui
offre des livres aux familles de
nouveau-nés et, lorsque
l’occasion se présente, aux
frères et sœurs plus âgés.
Nous administrons plusieurs
subventions et plusieurs
bourses pour nos écoles, par
exemple la Bourse Bauer, le
Programme de dîners de
Verdun,
le
Fonds
commémoratif Sue-Morris et
plusieurs autres.

Hollie D. Forrest put on

bringing in local designers
and student models from
LBPSB schools to bring
together a creative and
exciting look at fashions on
the West Island.
Added to the agenda were the
children of Thorndale School’s
National Discovery School
Program, modeling fashions
from the northern territories
and hip hop dancers from
Sherwood Forest School
showing us the latest in
exercise wear.
“The fashion show
raised over $6,700 this
year, nearly double that
of the previous year!”
The event raised an amazing
$6,700 for the foundation,
almost
double
the
contributions from the
previous year. This events
continues to be inspiring as it
brings together the students
demonstrating teamwork and
leadership in the community.
These beautiful Canadian designed
and made Hoselton aluminum
sculptures, bearing a subtlety engraved PEF logo are given to our
honorary members with gratitude
for their contribution to the Foundation.
PROGRAMME

Notre raison d’être est

PUBLIC EDUCATION IS A PUBLIC TRUST
Through a commitment to public education and the promotion of learning for all, the Foundation
believes in enhancing the opportunity for all students to become life-long learners, self-assured,
respectful and responsible to their community.
Recognizing that government funding of public education is finite, the Foundation supports students
and furthers this goal by supplying seed money to a broad array of projects generated by the
teachers and administrators of the LBP community.

Par son engagement envers l'instruction publique et la promotion de l'apprentissage pour tous, la
Fondation croit possible d'améliorer la possibilité pour tous les élèves de devenir des apprenants
pour la vie, sûrs d'eux, respectueux et responsables envers leur collectivité.
Reconnaissant que le financement gouvernemental de l'instruction publique est restreint, la
Fondation soutient les élèves et favorise cet objectif en fournissant des subventions de démarrage à
toute une gamme de projets initiés par les enseignants et les gestionnaires de la Commission
scolaire Lester-B.-Pearson.
