Twenty Canadian delegates and their spouse of the various Regions attended the event. Presentation of the two country’s flags preceded the opening of the AGM followed by speeches from President Bob Killen (USA) and President Phil Bailey (Canada) who greeted the delegates and extended their best wishes. Upon our arrival at Seattle-Tacoma Airport, a welcome committee from US Region 24 warmly greeted the delegates. Our thanks and appreciation go to Geoffrey Gretchman, his lovely wife and his team, for their friendship and the activity programme: boat ride and dinner at Tillicum Village, Seattle visit, Boeing Aviation Museum, Mount Rainier and the Alaska cruise. Seattle is the largest city in America’s Pacific Northwest. Its official nickname is the Emerald City, alluding to the lush evergreen trees surrounding the city. The Port of Seattle is a major economic engine specializing in transpacific commerce. It is also a great industrial centre with a population of 602,000. Founded in the middle of the 19th century, the city was named after Chief Seattle, of the Duwamish and Suquamish native tribes. The Space Needle is major landmark of the Pacific Northwest region of the United States and a symbol of Seattle. It was built for the 1962 World’s Fair and features an observation deck at 520 feet/160m, and a gift shop with the rotating SkyCity restaurant at 500 feet/152m.
