COURSE GOALS This course is designed to introduce you to the French language and cultures of French speaking countries. A variety of classroom activities will help you to develop French language skills in four areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Writing and speaking activities will reinforce and expand on the vocabulary and concepts presented in class. You will compile and illustrate all your writing assignments in a Portfolio. As the semester progresses, you will be able to comprehend and communicate in French at increasingly complex levels. By the end of the term you will be able to participate in basic everyday conversations, understand short texts, and express yourself in writing at a level consistent with the material covered. Remember that language is communication not only including a combination of words but also movements, gestures, eye contacts and tone of the voice. Have fun and discover great facets of your ‘French Personality’! Learning outcomes: students will be able: To use writing, listening and speaking skills in a variety of small and large group activities; To ask questions and respond (oral/written skills) after viewing film segments, simple reading or students’ presentations.
