The province of Saskatchewan is known for its many “firsts.” First Nations and other aboriginal people have lived and gathered here for thousands of years. Early pioneers settled here as part of the western farm expansion. Saskatchewan is known as the birthplace of Medicare as a universal, publicly-administered and high-quality system. In Saskatchewan, we're adept at blending cultural backgrounds and launching new ideas: two qualities that will help make this inaugural conference a success. The Saskatoon meeting will be the first initiative in an historic three-year partnership of the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC), the Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME), the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). Accordingly, this conference will focus on medical education issues of concern to all FIVE organizations. It's only fitting that the title of this joint conference be “LEARNING FROM EACH OTHER”. This conference offers something for everyone! The plenary session themes include: Generalism vs Superspecialization: Can One School Support Both?; Promoting Scholarship in Education; and Reflective Practice: Broadening Our Perspectives. Some of the workshops and poster sessions will explore the themes Keeping Up with the Future: Distributed Medical Education for All Learners and Developing Scholars in the Health Sciences. We hope to see you in Saskatoon this spring. Sask Tourism sums up the Saskatchewan experience: Nous espérons vous retrouver à Saskatoon au printemps. Le ministère provincial du tourisme (Sask Tourism) résume ainsi l'expérience de la Saskatchewan: Saskatchewan has a quiet stillness that invades your soul. The landscape is larger-than-life, the people down-to-earth, the cultural experiences authentic. There's room to breathe.... Come to a place where every visit rejuvenates. SASKATOON SASKATOON Saskatoon is situated on the South Saskatchewan River in central Saskatchewan. This picturesque city of 225,927 was established in the summer of 1883 by a group of settlers looking for Utopia. The name Saskatoon comes from the Cree Indian word “mis-sask-quahtoomina” for what we know today as Saskatoon berries. Saskatoon glows as a four-season destination with a wide array of festivals, events and attractions. Enjoy outdoor hikes, cruise or paddle on the river or discover the diverse multi-culturalism throughout the city. Stop and smell the wildflowers in many parks and trails along the river. Vibrant festivals, innovative art, drama and music and spirited sporting events provide year-round entertainment. Indulge yourself in a wide assortment of dining and shopping experiences throughout the city.
