The CHAIR, established the 4th September 2004, is a training and research
facility, whose objective is the ability to articulate the effectiveness of human
rights with international cooperation based on an ethics that totally recognizes
the autonomy and responsibility of individuals and communities, promoting
dialogue among the different disciplines to develop a “code of conduct” based
on political dialogue, regarding mutual respect, governance and institutional
support.
The activities of the UNESCO Chair of Bergamo develop along two main axes:
RESEARCH and TRANING on issues of human rights, cultural diversity and
international cooperation.

In the next number
The NEWSLETTER has a double purpose: first, to report the activities promoted
by the UNESCO Chair in Bergamo and its partners, together with the
contributions and thoughts of teachers, researchers, Ph.D. students and, second,
to introduce new proposals submitted by the international scientific community.

Activities of the UNESCO chair in Bergamo 2004/2009
1. RESEARCH
From its establishment the research activities were conducted in cooperation with
the OBSERVATORY FOR DIVERSITY AND CULTURAL RIGHTS OF
FRIBOURG and a series of national and international partners including:
ISESCO - Organisation islamique pour éducation les sciences et la culture.
OIM - Organisation Internationale pour les migrations.
IIPE - Institut International de Planification de l’éducation.
OIDEL - Organisation Internationale pour le droit a l’éducation et la liberté
-
d’enseignement.
BIE - Bureau International de l’éducation, Ginevra, Svizzera.
The UNIVERSITIES OF Fribourg, Havana, Mexico, the Islamic Azad University of
Teheran and the UNESCO CHAIRS of Cotonou, Honduras, Mexico, Teheran and
Rioja.

At the national level the UNESCO Chair operates in partnership with the
Province - Municipality - Diocese of Bergamo and the Region of Lombardy.
INTERNATIONAL MEETINGS marked on the one side the rhythm of the
research and on the other have allowed the identification of new trends and a replanning of the activities.

2. EDUCATION
The training activities have been articulated as follows:

Major Graduation in Human Rights and Ethics of International
Cooperation.
1st level Master degree in Human Rights and Ethics of International
Cooperation (Academic year 2005-2006).
2nd level Master degree in Human Rights and Ethics of International
Cooperation (Academic year 2007-2008).
Training for teachers in partnership with the City of Bergamo and with
local NGOs.
Participation in summer University OIDEL organized in Geneva and
training modules at European universities.
Funding Grants addressed to graduated African students at the Unesco
Chair of the University of Cotonou.
Workshops with associations of immigrants from the following
countries: Senegal, Burkina Faso, Bolivia, Colombia and Morocco.
Ph.D. in Sciences of International Cooperation “Vittorino Chizzolini”.

It has also been implemented a project entitled "Education, diversity and social
cohesion in the western Mediterranean” in cooperation with the UNESCO
chair of Rabat and ISESCO.

1. RESEARCH
The following international meetings will take place further on:
- Children's rights and human development within the social environment.
Friburg, April 2010.
- Cultural diversity and interdependence of human rights. Teheran, autumn
2010.
- Women’s rights and gender dimension. Tegucigalpa, 2011.
- Cultural rights and ethics of international cooperation. Bergamo, 2012.
- International Conference in Geneva at the United Nations (2012) on "The
Human Rights multiplier effects on development and international
cooperation”.
2. EDUCATION
- 2nd level Master degree in “Migrations and international cooperation
(Academic year 2009-2010).
- Scholarships for postgraduate training addressed to young people from
different African countries, at the Unesco Chair of the University of Cotonou
and Latin American students at the UNESCO Chair of the University of
Mexico.
- Workshops with associations of immigrants.
- Major graduation, in Human Rights and Ethics of International Cooperation.
- Ph.D. in Sciences of International Cooperation “Vittorino Chizzolini”.

4. PROJECTS INTERNATIONAL
- “Education and Religious Diversity in the Western Mediterranean”
2010-2011.
This project, in cooperation with the Council of Europe and the UNESCO
Chair of Tunis, Marrakesh and Rioja, is focused on the challenges of the role of
religion in public schools in the following countries of the Western
Mediterranean: Spain, Italy, Morocco and Tunisia.
- Project IPPE: “Indicators of parents participation in compulsory
education” 2009-2010.
In cooperation with:
- EPA - European Parents Association (Belgium).
- PRO - DIGNITATE - Foundation for Human Rights (Portugal).
- ISE - Institute of Science and Education - University of Stiinte (Romania).
- University of Aberystwyth (United Kingdom).

- OIDEL - International Organization for the Right to Education and Freedom
of Education (Geneva).
The main objective
Construct indicators of parental involvement in compulsory education as an
element of assessment of educational systems with an approach based on
Human Rights.
