BIOGRAPHY
French bass-baritone of Armenian descent, Sévag Tachdjian was born in Beirut in 1981.
He grew up in Nice, France, where he began his initiation to music by singing at the
Opera House's children chorus and playing the cello. While studying French literature in
Paris and journalism in Strasbourg, he devoted himself to singing and got admitted at the
Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Lyon, France, in Françoise Pollet’s class.
He perfected his singing under the direction of Wolfgang Brendel in Munich and Rudolf
Piernay in Salzbourg and during the master-classes of Kurt Moll, Anna Tomowa-Sintow
and Helen Donath.
Sévag subsequently joined the Opera Studio of Cologne, Germany, in 2010 where he
staged Marullo in Rigoletto, Baron Duphol in La Traviata, Sciarrone in Tosca, the First
Apprentice in Wozzeck, the Wigmaker in Ariadne auf Naxos and Littore and Consule
in L'Incoronazione di Poppea for two seasons. He also staged in Europea 3 & 4, by John
Cage, during the Holland Festival of 2012 and in June 2011, he has been voted “Best
Young Talent” by the Teater Pur magazine, a German newspaper specialized in Opera.
At the Opéra national du Rhin, he sings among others : Spencer Coyle, for the french
Première of Brittens's Owen Windgrave original version, Le Génie de la lampe, in Nino
Rota's Aladin, Maître Jean, in Gounod's La Colombe, as well as, more recently, Hanezò,
in Mascagni's L'Amico Fritz.
Tis season, he is Alidoro, in Rossini's La Cenerentola, at the Opéra de Tours, Le
Capitaine, in Massenet's Don Cezar de Bazan, on tour with Les Frivolités parisiennes, and
bass solo of Rossini's Petite messe solennelle , at the Auditorium de Bordeaux.
Found of oratorios and recitals, the young bass-baritone performed in the Mozart, Fauré
and Durufé´s Requiems, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle,
Mozart's Krönungsmesse at the Annecy Classic Festival, as well as in various recitals of
melodies and lieders in France, Germany and Algeria.
