You would be hard-pressed to find an event with such a long tradition anywhere else in the world of aviation. Virtually no other show in this sector anywhere on the planet attracts the same level of attention as this aviation exhibition held every two years in Le Bourget. We are delighted that we will once again be presenting so many exciting and interesting companies under the umbrella of Hanse-Aerospace e.V. at the Paris Air Show. The Hanse Pavilion is a good example of successful North German cooperation. Visitors will find Hanse-Aerospace and Hamburg Aviation side by side with Bremen Marketing and Aviabelt, the Bremen aviation association. The Paris Air Show is an outstanding opportunity for small and midsize suppliers to present their products and services as well as an excellent showcase for demonstrating their competitiveness on an international stage. The manufacturers from China, Russia and Brazil who are now beginning to make their presence felt on the market could be especially interesting in the coming years. Flowforming is a chip-less, high technology metal-forming technique for the production of seamless tubular components. It can be compared to making pottery. Here too the material is rotated and is stressed in a particular zone above the yield point so that it can flow in an axial direction. In general, all metals can be flowformed, accepting that they are homogenous and fine grained. Very common are Titan, Inconel, 15-5 PH steels etc. The parts are used as drive shafts for helicopters and jet engines, accumulator housings etc. SMF is EN 9100 certified and approved supplier for Rolls-Royce, Agusta, Avio, Safran group etc. Beside flowforming SMF is also using the spinning (spin forming) process to manufacture hemispheres for satellite tanks, tailcones for engines and noses for external fuel tanks for fighter aircrafts. SMF Drückwalztechnologie The ZAL Center of Applied Aeronautical Research informs about the construction start of ZAL TechCenter in Hamburg in March 2013. The state of the art technology center will open its doors by the end of 2014. Its research and testing infrastructures will be used by ZAL partners like Airbus Operations GmbH, Lufthansa Technik AG, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and other national and international partners. The main focus of technology is orientated towards the key competences of Hamburg’s Airbus location: cabin concepts and technologies, air and power systems as well as aerospace production and fuselage engineering. A particular feature of ZAL is the integrated, yet more or less autonomous Fuel Cell Lab. Its special test infrastructures for integrated hydrogen and fuel cell research are offered to both aviation and intersectoral partners. Following the basic idea of integration and industrialisation of aviation technologies, ZAL links industry and science, actively encourages a “think tank” culture and provides a research plateau for collective use. By combining everybody’s expertise, joint research projects can be initiated with the aim of integrating new technologies into innovative products.
