1. Les adverbes
Adverbs give some precision on the circumstances (whether
it is a location, time, or a way in which the action is
happening). It can also put information on a scale, and
give information on what the speaker is thinking.
They can modify a verb, and adjective, or another adverb.
They can be:
Words like: hier (yesterday), ici (here), maintenant (now)
Phrases : tout à coup (suddenly), au fur et à mesure
(gradually), ne...pas (the negation), jusque-là (until
then).
Words ending in -ment : lentement, rapidement...
For the last one, there is a trick to create them from
adjectives you already know:
A/ Simply add -ment to the feminine form of an adjective
Courageuse (Adj. f.) courageusement (Adv.)
Claire (Adj.f.) clairement (Adv.)
Exceptions:
Jolie (Adj. f.) joliment (Adv.)
Vraie (Adj. f.) vraiment (Adv.)
B/ Adjectives that end in -ent become -emment
Prudent (Adj.) prudemment (Adv.)
Impatient (Adj.) impatiemment (Adv.)
Exceptions:
Lent (Adj.) lentement (Adv.)
C/ Adjectives that end in -ant become -amment.
Brillant (Adj.) brillamment (Adv.)
Savant (Adj.) savamment (Adv.)
2. Practice
Using this vocabulary, take 5 minutes to prepare a 5sentence story using le passé composé, le passé immédiat,
le présent, et le futur proche.
