Topic At the Intersection of Tangible and Intangible: Constructing a Framework for the Protection of Sacred Indigenous Sites in the Pursuit of Natural Resource Development Projects Fields of Research Indigenous Law; Natural Resource Law; Comparative Law; International Human Rights Law; Legal Pluralism Biography Elizabeth Steyn is an LL.D. candidate under the supervision of Prof. Jean-­‐François Gaudreault-­‐DesBiens at the Université de Montréal, where she has been the recipient of both the prestigious Jacques Frémont Scholarship (awarded in 2013 by Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Law) and the RosDev Scholarship of Excellence (awarded in 2014 by Université de Montréal’s Faculté des Études Supérieures et Postdocturales). Originally from South Africa, she has attained her LL.B,. LL.M. and a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Corporate and Securities Law, all cum laude. She received the University of South Africa’s Council Award for her LL.M. degree and was awarded with academic colors by the University of Johannesburg. An admitted advocate, she served as a member of the Faculty of Law of the University of Johannesburg in South Africa for eight years prior to spending a further eight years in corporate practice as Legal Counsel to a leading energy group in the African private sector.
