PROGRAMM
/ THYROID CANCER SURGERY AND THE RECURRENT LARYNGEAL NERVE
This course is aimed at general, endocrine, head and neck, thoracic surgeons practicing or in training in thyroid surgery.
The objectives of this course are to review principal surgical techniques, to discuss surgical indications and strategies, and to
demonstrate technological innovations, with emphasis on functional preservation of the recurrent laryngeal nerve and the superior
laryngeal nerve using intraoperative neuromonitoring. The surgical and endocrine oncology experts will share their experience and
provide evidence-based information on the modern management of thyroid cancer and the recurrent nerve. Open discussion will be
welcome, with live video communication between the operating room and the auditorium.
March 16-17, 2016

Live Surgery (mornings): Techniques in Thyroid Cancer Surgery
• Total thyroidectomy: Management of the recurrent and superior laryngeal nerves
• Central compartment neck dissection
• Reoperative surgery in the central compartment: how and where to find the recurrent nerve
• Intermittent neuromonitoring of the recurrent laryngeal nerves and neuromonitoring with continuous vagal stimulation
• Robot-assisted thyroidectomy
