BCGE – Blaise Goetschin on the 2016 best bankers’ podium
Geneva, 22 July 2016 – Blaise Goetschin, CEO of the BCGE, has been announced as an
award-winner by the Obermatt Institute in its selection of the best CEOs of the year for
the fourth time in succession. He has become number 1 in the 2016 “Financial
Institutions: Switzerland - Multi-Year Ranking” listing and is ranked number 3 in the “Top
Ten Bankers” in Switzerland. This ranking is compiled on the basis of the key indicators
of the BCGE’s financial performances compared with those of similar institutions. This
distinction, based on independently processed factual data, reflects the quality of the
BCGE’s strategic orientations over the long term. It also illustrates the real weight of
bank players from the French-speaking region of Switzerland in the country’s financial
centre.
The Obermatt “CEO of the Year” ranking measures the outperformance (aggregated over several years,
2012-2016) of CEOs of institutions competing in a specific business field. The winners in the ranking are
those whose cumulative performance is sustainable over the long term, meaning an assessed awardwinner over several years.
These awards can be considered significant, as the Obermatt rankings are independently compiled. They
are based exclusively on public factual data and transparent financial calculations which have been
developed by an institute of international renown.

over a five-year period for the aggregate multi-year performances, ahead of all other competitors.

Obermatt ranking: indexing methodology which is factual and transparent
Obermatt’s indexing methodology covers three key financial indicators to assess the performance of a
business. They are:
- revenues, sales and development to measure growth
- the earnings trend to measure operating performance
- total shareholder return to measure strategic performance and investment

These indexing performances have the advantage of neutralising external factors and distorting effects
which can be induced by economic cycles, market movements and investor perception especially.
In addition, this transparent approach provides a real insight into the performances of businesses by
standardising financial figures for boards of directors, shareholders and the general public.
In this way, the strategy can be accurately calculated and the systems remain reliable even when
economic cycles are turbulent.
