Armstrong Service is currently interviewing for full time Boiler / Utility Operators in West Memphis, AR area.
Employees are responsible for the reliable delivery of high quality utilities and customer service.
Responsibilities include daily 24 / 7 operation and maintenance of high-pressure Superior Boilers, chillers, air compressors,
diesel generator, water treatment and other related equipment.
Must demonstrate safe behavior, self-motivation, flexibility in working shifts, good communication skills, and a CAN DO

Job Description
The Plant Operator’s primary purpose is to apply knowledge of boiler house processes and equipment to perform all regular and non-routine plant operations and maintenance, including operations of boilers, HVAC and associated equipment,
lab and clerical work. Performs all activities necessary to maintain structures, equipment, and grounds. The area of focus
involves Steam System, Compressed Air, Waste Water and HVAC operations and maintenance.
Level of Authority
Performs routine and non-routine tasks with only general supervision. Operates alone during most shifts, frequently performing work of a high level of skill and judgment while unsupervised, requiring quick and accurate decisions, where incorrect decision or action could result in serious risk of physical harm to operator, costly damage to equipment, health hazard
to the public, interruption of service to client, or a fine by a regulatory agency. Has some latitude in making normal process changes within prescribed standards.
Essential Job Functions












Monitor all plant operations and record data from control room meters, gauges, and recording chart readings. Report
malfunctions and unusual trends or conditions to Site Supervisor and or Lead Operator.
Adjust apparatus controls, start and stop pumps, adjust valves, and operate electric switches and valve controls as
necessary to maintain assigned process operations within prescribed standards.
Collect water samples for in-house and outside analysis. Prepare samples for shipping to outside laboratory if required. Maintain appropriate records.
Perform all routine maintenance on equipment, such as lubrication, oil changes, and belt changes.
Perform plant maintenance duties within scope of ability and with appropriate supervision. This includes: inspection,
cleaning, and maintenance of tanks; corrosion control of plant piping and valves; scraping and painting; carpentry;
plumbing; minor electrical repairs; mopping and waxing floors; cleaning windows.
Perform all work in accordance with local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations and in compliance with all departmental safety policies and procedures. This includes using appropriate safety devices and equipment.
As requested, serve as plant safety representative. Duties include evaluating safety-related equipment or procedures
and making recommendations; maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and

As directed, conduct individual projects, such as projections, proposals, procedure development, or facility research,
along with ongoing operations duties.
Perform clerical and administrative duties as necessary.
May be required in emergency situations to report to work during unscheduled time.

Job Qualifications and Education Required:
Technical





Arkansas High Pressure Boiler Operator License
2-3 years’ experience in operations of steam, compressed air, chilled water, waste waste water and diesel generator systems
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must have a strong basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic theory and application,
and be able to use manuals and other resources to apply that knowledge in boiler plant operations and other
diverse requirements of the job.
Must be able to use basic spreadsheet and word processing computer programs to enter data and prepare correspondence. Must be able to learn to operate programmable logic controllers (PLC's) to monitor and maintain
operations.
Physical Capabilities





Physical strength and ability sufficient to perform medium manual labor for extended periods under wet, cold,
and generally unpleasant conditions. Heavy labor is defined, for example, as frequently exerting force sufficient
to lift items weighing up to 40 pounds from shoulder-height, turn with weight above the waist, and set contents
down
Physical stamina and agility sufficient to stand, walk, climb stairs, crawl and bend in confined spaces, and engage
in similar physical activities for the duration of the shift, as necessary.
Capacity for sustained attention to functioning machinery and equipment. Good sensory perception to monitor
plant machinery and operations visually, audibly, by smell, and by touch (for temperature and vibration) on an
ongoing basis.
Ability to monitor radio messages while doing other work throughout shift.
Ability to wear all required safety and protective gear and equipment.
Other Capabilities





Basic knowledge and ability to read equipment instruction and maintenance manuals, drawings, schematics, and
blueprints.
Good working knowledge of math and chemistry and the specific applications of these in the plant.
Ability to give and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to learn to perform a variety of clerical functions, including typing correspondence, making legible and
orderly entries in logs and work order reports, and maintaining files.
Ability to supervise the work of others occasionally as required.
Use of Tools and Equipment
In addition to computer and all specialized plant equipment, operate forklift and pickup truck. To the extent
of ability, use a variety of hand tools, such as saws, drills, wrenches, shovels, etc., and power tools, such
as cutting torches, drill and bench presses, grinders, drills, and a variety of saws, including electric, chain,
reciprocating, table, and jigsaw and pipe threader.
