N° 25 30 juillet 2014 Lettre d'information de la Fédération de Recherche Lasers et Plasmas (FR2707) _____________________________________________________________________________ Thierry Massard nouveau président de l’Association Lasers et Plasmas Rappelons tout d’abord que l’Association Lasers et Plasmas (ALP) constitue l’une des deux structures opérationnelles sur lesquelles s’appuie le groupement d’intérêt scientifique intitulé Institut Lasers et Plasmas (ILP), l’autre étant la Fédération de Recherche du même nom (FLP). L’une des missions de l’ALP est d’organiser l’accès des communautés scientifiques associées aux projets de la FLP aux installations lasers de haute intensité (PETAL-LMJ, précédemment Alisé, LIL) situées sur le site du CEA/CESTA. Francis Hardouin, qui fut l’un des fondateurs de l’ILP dès 2003, a été le président de l’ALP depuis sa création en 2008. Lors de son dernier conseil d’administration, le 19 juin 2014, l’ALP a élu Thierry Massard comme nouveau président. C’est ici l’occasion de remercier Francis Hardouin pour tout le travail qu’il a accompli pour l’Association Lasers et Plasmas, et plus largement encore pour l’Institut Lasers et Plasmas, depuis sa création. _____________________________________________________________________________ Appel à propositions d’expériences au LULI, printemps 2015 - printemps 2016 L’appel a propositions est ouvert. The prize, consisting in a certificate and 1500 €, will be delivered at the next 17th International Congress on Plasma Physics (ICPP 2014) held in Lisbon, Portugal, from the 15th to the 19th of September 2014. Depierreux et al., Nature Comm. 5, 4158 (2014). L'évolution non-linéaire des ondes plasma électroniques stimulées dans l'instabilité de diffusion Raman en régime cinétique est complexe car elle conduit à la fois à une réduction de l'amortissement Landau mais aussi à un décalage de fréquence nonlinéaire qui désaccorde la résonance ainsi qu'à des instabilités secondaires de l'onde plasma qui limitent elles-aussi son amplitude. Ces non-linéarités de l'onde plasma stimulée prennent une importance particulière tant dans le cadre de la fusion inertielle que pour l'amplification Raman d'impulsions laser. A partir d'une expérience originale menée au LULI, on a mesuré le seuil de déclenchement des effets non linéaires sur les ondes plasma électroniques en régime cinétique initialement dominé par l'amortissement Landau. On a démontré en particulier que la réponse des ondes plasma est affectée par les effets cinétiques dès les très faibles niveaux de réflectivités (~ 0.1%). Au-delà de ce seuil, la dynamique complexe de la rétrodiffusion Raman dans ce régime de non linéarité cinétique des ondes plasma électroniques résulte en un facteur d'amplification Raman augmenté par rapport à sa valeur linéaire. La géométrie de cette expérience reproduit l'interaction en plasmas multiples le long d'un faisceau laser dans une cavité FCI. L'observation d'un seuil très bas pour le déclenchement d'une amplification Raman augmentée par les effets cinétiques dans cette expérience explique ainsi en partie les réflectivités Raman élevées mesurées à l'échelle mégajoule sur le NIF. L'augmentation du facteur d'amplification Raman par cette non linéarité des ondes plasma en régime cinétique suggère par ailleurs la possibilité de développer des schémas d'amplification Raman d'impulsions courtes dans ce régime initialement dominé par l'amortissement Landau pour lequel l'amortissement collisionnel résiduel est faible. _____________________________________________________________________________ 2 ECLIM 2014, Paris, 30 août-5 septembre 2014 L'ECLIM 2014 aura lieu du 30 Août au 5 septembre 2014 à Paris. The workshop is in the framework of these actions. The second users’ workshop focuses on research that could be conducted at ELIALPS in the scientific areas of material science and chemistry related applications. Its mission is to brainstorm research and technology that could be optimally and/or uniquely hosted by ELIALPS. This workshop will continue the series of successful International Workshops on Fast Ignition, the most recent of which were held in 3 Napa, California (2012), and Shanghai, China (2010). The program will include oral and poster presentations as well as discussion sessions focused on the current status of Fast Ignition research and mapping out strategic directions going forward. The meeting will follow the same informal, interactive atmosphere of past workshops in the series. The International Congress on Plasma Physics was first held in Nagoya, in 1980, and followed by similar events in many different cities around the word: most recently in Santiago (2010) and Stockholm (2012). The scope of ICPP is to discuss the recent progress and to establish a view on the future of plasma science, covering a wide range of aspects on fundamental plasma physics, fusion plasmas, astrophysical plasmas, and plasma applications. In addition, the second general meeting of the COST Action MP1208 “Developing the Physics and the Scientific Community for Inertial Fusion” will take place in conjunction with the ICPP conference in Lisbon. C'est une école dont le but est la formation complémentaire de jeunes ingénieurs ou chercheurs dans un domaine qui change tous les deux ans. Elle s'adresse également à des ingénieurs-chercheurs plus confirmés qui souhaitent étendre leur domaine de compétence. Un des objectifs constants de cette formation est de permettre à des spécialistes (physiciens, chimistes, biologistes, théoriciens, expéri-mentateurs, numériciens) d'acquérir des bases communes qui leur permettent de travailler plus facilement ensemble. Le thème retenu cette année est : "Les phénomènes de transport dans les plasmas chauds". C'est un thème d'actualité qui est relié au démarrage du Laser MégaJoule prévu pour les mois qui suivront l'école. Ce thème permet également de réunir les communautés de l'astrophysique, de la Fusion par Confinement Inertiel et de la Fusion par Confinement Magnétique. The framework will be a series of oral sessions and one poster session in which a large fraction of the participants will make presentations. We will discuss novel experiments in the high-pressure regime created by nanosecond lasers and in particular discuss results obtained with the recently commissioned 25 TW-laser. We will describe the scientific opportunities at the MEC instrument and provide time to discuss important physics proposals and experimental needs for cutting-edge research with the upcoming 200 TW-laser that is expected to become available shortly after the workshop. Cette rencontre rassemblera les spécialistes internationaux des profils de raies spectrales dans les plasmas afin de comparer et d’analyser les résultats obtenus par les différents modèles théoriques et numériques.
