"SMEC - Soccer Complex Architecture Competition"
This is not an ideas competition: the laureate project will be built! This twostage competition's objective is to build a new covered soccer stadium (1,000
seats) and, at a later stage, an outdoor playing field at the Saint-Michel
Environmental Complex (SMEC). The SMEC area use to be the Miron quarry and
landfill site but has been converted to a major urban park in the last 15 years and
where, most noticeably, the Cirque du Soleil has decided to build their
headquarters. The SMEC is a model in sustainable development: hence, the new
soccer complex is targeting a LEED-NC "Gold" certification.
COMPETITION STAGES:
Stage 1 - Call fo proposals: All contestants are asked to register and submit
their proposals in response to the architectural program that has been set out.
The jury will select four proposals. This first stage is anonymous and
unremunerated.
Stage 2 - Provision of plans: The four finalists will then be invited to prepare a
project presentation, with fees of $62,000 CAN (before taxes) per team, leading
to the selection of a laureate.

Michel Rose, engineer, director, Direction des ressources financières et
matérielles, Polytechnique Montréal (Stage 2 only)
ELIGIBILITY:
All architects, architectural firms and groups of architects are invited to submit a
proposal but must have a place of business in Québec for the last three years.
Consortiums are allowed but a team member must have a place of business in
Québec for the last three years.
DOCUMENTS:
The competition documents (rules and program) may be obtained on the SEAO
electronic bidding system from June 9, 2011 to July 7, 2011.
REGISTRATION:
The completed registration form must be sent to Louise Amyot, the competition
professional advisor, no later than July 7, 2011.
SUDMISSION DEADLINE:
Proposals must be received in Montreal by 11 a.m., July 20, 2011.
