DIRECTOR GENERAL LAND EQUIPMENT PROGRAM
MANAGEMENT
Brigadier-General Alexander Patch joined the Canadian Forces in 1983. On completion of officer
training as an Electrical Mechanical Engineer, he served in a variety of appointments as a junior
officer in Petawawa with 2 Service Battalion, The Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD), and the
Special Service Force Headquarters. As a Major, he served in Land Force Atlantic Area followed
by 1 Service Battalion. Upon promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, he was appointed G4 Land Force
Western Area, and then Commanding Officer 1 Service Battalion (1999 – 2001).
Brigadier-General Patch was promoted to Colonel in 2001, and was appointed Director Armoured
Vehicle Program Management and Project Manager Light Armoured Vehicles. From 2004 to
2006, he was the Army Human Resources Manager (the Army Adjutant), and from 2006 to 2008
he was Commander 1 Area Support Group. He joined the Strategic Joint Staff in 2008 as Director
General Coordination, and upon promotion to his current rank in July 2009, he was appointed
Director General Land Equipment Program Management (DGLEPM).
Brigadier-General Patch holds a Bachelor's degree Mechanical Engineering, and is a graduate of
the Advanced Military Studies Course and the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College. His
operational experience includes service with The RCD in Cyprus (1989), UNTAC HQ in
Cambodia (1993), CANLOGBAT in Croatia (1995), the National Support Element in BosniaHerzegovina (2000), and the International Security and Assistance Force Headquarters in
Afghanistan (2004). He enjoys shinny and skiing in winter, paddling and sailing in summer, and
reading and watercolour at any time.

Le Brigadier-général Alexander Patch s'engage dans les Forces canadiennes en 1983. Après avoir
terminé sa formation d'officier comme ingénieur électrique et mécanique, il occupe divers postes
en tant qu'officier subalterne à Petawawa auprès du 2e Bataillon des services, du Royal Canadian
Dragoons (RCD) et du quartier général de la Force d'opérations spéciales. À titre de major, il est
au service du Secteur de l'Atlantique de la Force terrestre, puis du 1er Bataillon des services.
Promu au grade de lieutenant-colonel, il est nommé G4 Secteur de l'Ouest de la Force terrestre, et
par la suite commandant du 1er Bataillon des services (1999-2001).
Le Brigadier-général Patch est promu au grade de colonel en 2001 et est nommé Directeur –
Administration du programme des véhicules blindés et gestionnaire du projet de véhicule blindé
léger. De 2004 à 2006, il est gestionnaire des ressources humaines de l'Armée de terre (capitaineadjudant) et, de 2006 à 2008, il est commandant du 1er Groupe de soutien de secteur. À l'été
2008, il est nommé Directeur général – Coordination au sein de l'État-major interarmées
stratégique. Suite à sa promotion au grade de Brigadier-général en juillet 2009, il est nommé
Directeur général de la gestion du programme d'équipement terrestre.
Le Brigadier-général Patch possède un baccalauréat en génie mécanique et un diplôme du Cours
supérieur des études militaires et du Collège d'état-major et de commandement des Forces
canadiennes. Son expérience opérationnelle comprend une affectation au RCD à Chypre (1989),
au QG APRONUC au Cambodge (1993), au CANLOGBAT en Croatie (1995), à l'élément de
soutien national en Bosnie-Herzégovine (2000) et au quartier général de la Force nationale
d'assistance à la sécurité en Afghanistan (2004). Il pratique le hockey récréatif et le ski en hiver,
le canotage et la voile en été et s'adonne aussi à la lecture et à l'aquarelle.
