Beirut, December 7th, 2016 – Within its commitment to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
and female entrepreneurs, BLC Bank has organized for the fifth year in a row the Brilliant Lebanese
Awards, the first banking award of its kind in Lebanon. The event took place at the Casino du Liban on
December 6th and gathered prominent figures from economic, banking and media sectors. It is during
this ceremony that the Awards winners were unveiled. Mr. Jamil Haddad (Colonel Beer) won the
“Business of the year” award while Ms. Zeina Khoury Daoud (Le Potager) was elected “Woman
entrepreneur of the year”. They received a cash prize of USD 30,000 each. As for the People’s Choice
Award, it was won by Rita Abboud (Bébés câlins – Ecole maternelle) . She received a cash prize of USD
5,000.
Entrepreneurs participating in the Brilliant Lebanese Awards make their way through various stages,
receiving training, advice and, guidance from jury members who assess the finalists’ businesses
according to the following criteria: Financial performance of the company (30%), Creativity of the
Business (30%), Sustainability and Scalability (25%) and its Corporate Social Responsibility (15%).
The jury gathers a panel of independent professionals including representatives from Banque du Liban,
the Lebanese American University, Endeavor Lebanon, Kafalat, The Lebanese Businessmen Association
(RDCL), and BLC Bank as well as prominent male and female entrepreneurs.
On that occasion, the Chairman General Manager of BLC Bank Mr. Maurice Sehnaoui stated: “Through
the Brilliant Lebanese Awards, we are confirming once again our commitment to support SMEs that
account for 93% of the country’s enterprises. We also believe in empowering women economically and
strengthening their role in the Lebanese economy as a strategic partner that represents 50% of the
population. As a matter of fact, studies show that an exhaustive inclusion of women in the MENA
economy would increase the region’s GDP by around 25%.”
In his turn, the Deputy Chairman and General Manager of BLC Bank Mr. Nadim Kassar stated that “the
full-fledged financial and non-financial program offered by the Bank to Lebanese SMEs and women has
set BLC Bank as an example for best practices as we have to date influenced the creation of more than
25 programs in Banks around the world.”
Kassar added that “the Brilliant Lebanese Awards are not limited to BLC Bank’s clients as we aim to
provide nationwide exposure to SMEs coming from different fields and regions, offering them the
financial and moral support needed to nurture their businesses, thereby contributing to the growth of
the Lebanese economy.”
Many entrepreneurs applied to this year’s edition of the Brilliant Lebanese Awards, with 12 candidates
making it to the final selection. For the “Woman entrepreneur of the year”: Rita Abboud (Bébés Calins –
Ecole Maternelle), Claire Damaa (Claire Damaa Group), Reem Al Banna (Heart to Heart), Christelle Yared
(MSCA), Pamela Jabbour (Mes Petites Ballerines) and Zeina Daoud Khoury (Le Potager). As for the
“Business of the year”: Badr Hassoun (Eco Village Khan el Saboun), Rajaa Habache (La Rose de Sim),
Jamil Haddad (Colonel Beer), Maroun Chedid (Maroun Chedid SAL), Nicolas Abouchaar (Phoenus) and
Hadi Hamza (Genius Map).
The Brilliant Lebanese Awards are considered one of BLC Bank’s main key offerings honoring and

Lebanese Awards

Beyrouth, le 7 décembre 2016 – Dans le cadre de son engagement continu envers les petites et
moyennes entreprises (PME) et les femmes entrepreneurs, BLC Bank a organisé pour la cinquième
année consécutive les Brilliant Lebanese Awards, une initiative qui est la première en son genre au
Liban. La cérémonie s’est tenue au Casino du Liban au soir du 6 décembre et a réuni des figures de haut
rang des domaines de la finance, de l’économie et des médias. Lors de cette soirée, Jamil Haddad
(Colonel Beer) a remporté le titre d’"Entreprise de l’année” et Zeina Khoury Daoud (Le Potager) a été
élue « Femme Entrepreneur de l’année » pour 2016. Les deux gagnants ont reçu $30.000 chacun. Quant
au Choix du Public, c’est Rita Abboud (Bébés câlins – Ecole maternelle) qui a recueilli le plus de votes et
remporté le prix de $5.000.
Le parcours des candidats est jalonné de plusieurs étapes au cours desquelles ils reçoivent des
formations, des conseils et des recommandations des membres du jury qui évaluent les entreprises sur
base des critères suivants : la performance financière (30%), la créativité (30%), la pérennité et le
potentiel de croissance (25%) et enfin la responsabilité sociale de l’entreprise (15%).
Le jury, indépendant, est composé d’entrepreneurs ainsi que de professionnels, de la Banque du Liban,
la Lebanese American University, Endeavor Lebanon, Kafalat, le Rassemblement des Dirigeants et Chefs
d’Entreprises Libanais (RDCL), et BLC Bank.
Lors de la soirée, le PDG de BLC Bank M. Maurice Sehnaoui a déclaré: « Par le biais des Brilliant Lebanese
Awards, notre banque prouve une fois de plus son engagement envers les PME libanaises qui
constituent 93% des entreprises du pays. Nous croyons également en l’autonomisation économique des
femmes et le renforcement de leur rôle au sein de l’économie en tant que partenaires stratégiques
représentant 50% de la population libanaise». Et de souligner que des études ont démontré qu’une
inclusion exhaustive de la femme dans l’économie du Moyen-Orient et de l’Afrique du Nord
augmenterait le PIB de la région de 25% .
Quant à M. Nadim Kassar, Vice-Président et Directeur général de BLC Bank, il a déclaré que « l’éventail
de services financiers et non-financiers offerts par la banque en ont fait une référence pour 25 banques
de par le monde qui s’en sont inspirées pour développer des programmes similaires. » M. Kassar a
rajouté : « Les Brilliant Lebanese Awards visent à promouvoir les entrepeneurs libanais de tous secteurs
