THE MOVING IMAGES OF DONIGAN CUMMING
onigan Cumming is a Montreal-based photographer and video artist whose startling treatments of the
old, the indigent, the ill and the addicted have challenged the taboos of representation. He has presented
his photographs, videotapes, and multi-media installations in solo and thematic exhibitions at museums
and film festivals worldwide. Cumming’s tapes have been screened annually at the Rotterdam
International Film Festival since 1998 when his work was featured in the program, The Cruel Machine.
In 2000, his video installation, Moving Stills, was part of Rotterdam’s Exploding Cinema. In New York, his tapes have
been screened at MoMA, the New York Video Festival, and the Whitney. The FCMM in Montreal has been showing his work since 1996 when he won the Telefilm Canada Video Prize for Canadian Discoveries. Cumming’s work
has been acquired for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and by national museums in Belgium, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States.

poverty and disappointment are as predictable as the peeling paint. Donigan Cumming travels the halls of these hotels,

Four old college friends find themselves thrown together due to a series of unexpected circumstances. Joep is a member of the Lower House who is mixed up in matrimonial troubles; Pieter works
as an official for the local government; Tom is a lawyer addicted to coke; Maarten is awaiting the
imminent première of his stage play. In solidarity, the men decide to help each other, but their old
friendship and former expectations are not immune to the ravages of time and ambition. English
sub-titles.
Seen through several stories which unfolded between the years 1936 and 2002, the film captures
66 seasons at the popular old swimming pool in Kosice, and also the same number of years in the
history of Central and Eastern Europe. The film features the reminiscences of several visitors to
the pool, which the film crew tries to reconstruct years later. The swimming pool thus acquires a
metaphysical dimension – it resembles a model of the world where private stories merge with grand
events of recent history. English subtitles.

plantation, he experiences the height of the black gold fever which soon tests his endurance, his
ethics, and the limits of greed in the Amazonian forests. Winner of Best Picture Award at

to Ljubljana to spend the summer with their aunt and uncle. Ado knows, but Sani doesn't, that the
‘holiday’ is actually a permanent move. What unfolds is an atypical and affecting coming-of-age

crime reporter of the Stockholm tabloid Kvallspressen, and lots of male colleagues, like old-timer
Nils Langeby, can't wait for her to make a mistake. Then Annika gets hooked on a story - a sensational one in which the stadium where Sweden is to host the Olympic Games is bombed and a
body is found in the rubble. English sub-titles.
Une chroniqueure des affaires criminelles qui ne vit que pour son travail file un poseur de
bombes fou dans DEADLINE, qui est basé sur un roman à succès suédois de la dernière décennie. Annika est nommée responsable des affaires criminelles du journal Kvallspressen de
Stockholm et beaucoup de ses camarades de travail masculins, comme le vieux routier Nils Langeby,
ont hâte qu’elle fasse une erreur. Elle s’accroche alors à une histoire sensationnelle : une bombe
explose dans le stade où la Suède doit accueillir les Jeux olympiques et un corps est trouvé dans

Un retour stylistique explosif aux jours glorieux du manifeste du Dogme avec son intensité et ses
émotions brutes. Bien que les films précédents du Dogme aient été animés par une rage adolescente
presque nihiliste, OPEN HEARTS est de loin beaucoup plus adulte. Il se concentre sur Cécille et
Joachim, un jeune couple très mal assorti qui est déchiré par un accident désastreux.

Zdenek owes him a considerable sum of money and Standa hopes it will help him to fulfill his
dreams. Everything seems to be going well – that is, until Standa meets Ondrej. "…David
Ondricek pokes fun at personal eccentricities and societal mores with the same brutal anarchy

Standa est une fausse balle. Les dieux lui ont donné de mauvaises cartes mais il a encaissé les
coups sans trop se plaindre. À sa libération de prison, il croit que tout changera pour le mieux.

WONDROUS OBLIVION is the story of eleven year-old David Wiseman, who is mad about cricket
but no good at it. He has all the kit but none of the skill, and he’s a laughing stock at school. So
when a Jamaican family moves in next door and builds a cricket net in the back garden, David is
in seventh heaven. But this is 1960s England, and when the neighbours start to make life difficult
for the new arrivals, David’s Jewish family is caught in the middle.
WONDROUS OBLIVION est l’histoire de David Wiseman, 11 ans, qui est fou de cricket sans en avoir
le talent. Il a tout l’équipement mais aucune des compétences et fait rire de lui à l’école. Quand
une famille jamaïcaine emménage à la porte voisine et installe un jeu de criquet dans le jardin d’en
arrière, David est au septième ciel. Mais nous sommes dans l’Angleterre des années 1960 : quand
les voisins commencent à compliquer la vie des nouveaux arrivants, la famille juive de David est

young son in a motorcycle accident. The reclusive foreigner’s business is embroidery for the haute
couturiers of Paris. The older woman is in the throes of grief over the death of her child; the younger
is anxious about the child yet to be born. A hit at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival. English

Claire vit seule depuis quelques temps dans une chambre à Angoulême, une petite ville de province.
Quand, du haut de ses 17 ans, Claire apprend qu'elle est enceinte de cinq mois, elle décide d'accoucher chez madamde Melikian. Mme Melikian est une brodeuse à façon pour la haute couture.
Jour après jour, point après point, à mesure que le ventre de Claire s'arrondit, se transmet

Fatih Akin struck gold this year at the Berlin International Film Festival with his latest film
HEAD-ON, winning the coveted Golden Bear, but it was his previous film SOLINO that assured him
a place in the front ranks of the contemporary international film scene. Set in the 1960s, the Amato
family has moved from Solino, Italy, to a grey, industrial town in Germany where they set up a pizza
parlour, the first in the area. With its humanist, cross-border politics, SOLINO successfully
captures the strain of familial relationships with intelligence and humour. English sub-titles.
Dans les années 1960, la famille Amato, de Solino en Italie, déménage dans une grise ville industrielle d’Allemagne où elle établit une pizzeria, la première dans la région. Avec sa politique humaniste et transfrontalière, SOLINO réussit à saisir les tensions des relations familiales avec grâce et
intelligence.
Ce film dramatique est basé sur des comptes rendus historiques prenants de la résistance lituanienne et du résistant légendaire Juozas Luksa. Deux de ses frères, Stasys et Jurgis, ont été tués
pendant qu’ils combattaient dans l'ombre et ses deux autres frères, Antanas et Vincas, ont été exilés
en Sibérie. Malgré ces pertes personnelles, Juozas Luksa a continué à combattre l’occupation soviétique et a plus tard représenté la résistance en Occident.

The merchant Hubert Verkamen, suspected of murdering an entire family, is being interrogated at
the police station in Brussels by two police inspectors. The police are mistakenly convinced that
he is an infamous drug trafficker who has repeatedly slipped through their fingers. Verkamen at
first strenuously denies any involvement, but then decides to play along and so gives rise to a complicated game during which he pretends to play the part of the criminal the others want him to be.
English sub-titles.
Le commerçant Hubert Verkamen, soupçonné d’avoir assassiné sauvagement une famille entière,
est interrogé avec brutalité par deux inspecteurs dans un poste de police de Bruxelles. Les
policiers sont convaincus à tort qu’il est l'infâme trafiquant de drogues qui leur a glissé entre les
doigts à plusieurs reprises. Au début, Verkamen nie avec acharnement toute implication, mais il
décide ensuite de se prêter au jeu et d'endosser le rôle du criminel que les autres veulent qu’il soit.

This dramatic film is based on powerful historical accounts of the Lithuanian resistance movement
and a legendary fighter for freedom, Juozas Luksa. Two of Juozas’ brothers, Stasys and Jurgis, were
killed while fighting in the underground, and his two other brothers, Antanas and Vincas were exiled

An original, slightly chilling office comedy. Ernesto, an employee of a large international company,
tries to win back the right to smoke in at least one of the rooms at work. He circulates a petition.
At first it seems that Ernesto is playing on the monotonous frustrations of staff. Resisting the pressures and inconspicuous threats from higher ups is not an easy task, however. An apparently banal
issue slowly escalates into a serious conflict. English sub-titles.
Une comédie de bureau originale qui vous donnera un peu froid dans le dos. Ernesto, employé
dans une multinationale, essaie d’avoir à nouveau le droit de fumer dans au moins une des salles
au travail et fait circuler une pétition. Au début, il semble jouer sur les frustrations du personnel
face à la monotonie. Il ne lui est toutefois pas facile de résister aux pressions et aux menaces voilées
des supérieurs. Une question apparemment banale se transforme bientôt en un conflit d’opinions
important.
