River Trail
Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail, Winnipeg – Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail is
officially open today, and it looks like it will be returning to Riverview.
“This year’s changing rivers have provided quite a challenge, but we’re always up for a
creative approach,” says Paul Jordan, Chief Operating Officer, The Forks. “There will be
some exciting changes this year, but we’re again taking the 3.5 kilometre trek to Churchill
Drive. We’re especially pleased to get back there after the community’s outpouring of support
last year.”
Title sponsor Assiniboine Credit Union is again pleased to be on board and providing a way
for Winnipeggers to enjoy our city from an entirely different vantage point.
"We never know what to expect out of the trail, and are never disappointed," said Assiniboine
Credit Union President and CEO, Al Morin. "We’re excited to see where the rivers take the
trail this year, and are honoured to be part of this venture as it continues to evolve."
Programming this year includes some old favourites and some exciting new additions.
“There is really something for everyone this year; from ice painting and inukshuk building to
broomball challenges and ice bike races,” says Ginette Lavack-Walters, Executive Director,
Festival du Voyageur. “We are extremely pleased that we can also offer free programming
every weekend from noon until four.”

In 2008, Assiniboine Credit Union River Trail broke the Guinness World record for the
longest naturally frozen skating trail in the world, with 8.54 kilometres. It is maintained and
programmed through a collaboration between The Forks Renewal Corporation and
Festival du Voyageur.
