ABSTRACTS ABSTRACTS Michel DESROCHES L’homme et la guerre dans la Rome ancienne : genres poétiques et poésie du genre Man and War in Ancient Rome : Poetic Genres and Poetry of Gender As from the end of the Republican period, Latin epics reflected the moral suspicion which martial bravery was stained with, mainly because of civil wars. Far from singing warlike heroism unreservedly, these poems also included some registers that were incompatible with praising heroes’ glory. But martial uirtues were likewise in Rome a norm likely to give form to male identity : emphasizing the warlike ideal as a questioned one. Poetical works also allow comprehension of the masculinity crisis that occurred at the time and a better understanding of its modalities. The men, having inherited a gender without being able to conform to it any longer, reshaped its outlines. Then, paradoxically, the norms they had received remained as a background, both integrated and transgressed. Jean-Claude MAES Conflit de couple vs guerre des sexes à travers l’œuvre de Shakespeare Conflict between Partners vs. War of the Sexes throughout Skakespeare’s Work We will start with the disjunction between the notions of conflict, a symmetrical relation, and war, an asymmetrical relation. This disjunction fragments the one suggested by Edgar Morin on competition and antagonism, to review what makes a conflict evolve into war and conversely what makes the war evolve into conflicts. For this purpose we will review some examples of romantic encounters from Shakespeare's work : “Much ado about nothing”, where Benedict and Beatrice go from permanent contest into mutual submission ; “Richard III”, where Gloucester did not feel up to the banter of peacetime and decides to revive war from his warm cinders ; “The Taming of the Shrew”, in which two beings with the temper of conquerors will collide to finally seduce each other ; and finally “Anthony and Cleopatra”, where both non-submissive beings give in to love and lose their lives to it. 171 L’Année Mosaïque – 2013 / 2 Pierre-Henry BAS L’art du combat germanique : images didactiques et gestes martiaux (XVe-XVIe siècles) German Fighting Art : Didactic Pictures and Martial Gestures (15th-16th centuries) German masters-at-arms of the last medieval and early modern periods used different types of pictures in their fight-books, for illustrative, didactic, and codification purposes. Originally, in order to show the fight reality they would show two opponents executing technical gestures. At the same time as this codification type, other pictures appeared during the 16th century, showing the cuts trajectory or the different targets. These are only illustrations of older concepts. Some pictures need to be mentally reproduced during a conflict with an adversary. Pictures are dependent on texts under metaphor, diagram and schematic forms. They help for the understanding of the text construction, codification and teaching of the fighting art. Sarah BÉARELLE Imagologie de la France dans l’Ortis d’Ugo Foscolo Imagology of France in Ugo Foscolo’s Ortis The purpose of this article is to analyse the image of France in the novel of the Italian writer Ugo Foscolo (1778-1829), Ultime lettere di Jacopo Ortis. We will initially show the relationship between the author and the French nation before linking the text’s history with historiography. Finally, an in-depth analysis of the text will help us to perceive terms and content of the representation of France. Vianney MARTIN La guerre d’Indépendance et ses mythes The Spanish War of Independence and its Myths The representations of war in collective imagination are principally handed down by principal education but also by the cinema. Among other mediums, school textbooks and films influence opinions in a particular way. Charged with ideology and manipulated by the dominating political forces of the time, the many and varied representations of the Spanish War of Independence (18081814) are no exception to the rule. However, they still seem to keep in common a remarkable thread : the pictorial work of Francisco de Goya. Maxence CAMBRON La scène au-delà de l’image : un théâtre d’apparitions et de visions (François Tanguy et le Théâtre du Radeau) The Scene beyond the Picture : a Theatre of Appearances and Visions (François Tanguy and the Théâtre du Radeau) François Tanguy, stage director of the French company Théâtre du Radeau, has for thirty years explored new courses of actions in which the European ghosts cross paths, especially the ghosts of the last big continental conflicts. Refusing the “Theatre of images” movement, François Tanguy creates never theless some “picture effects” with duration, space, actions, and sounds. Those “picture effects” transform theatre in a place where apparitions and invoca tions of war’s spectres can happen. This article aims at analysing this Memory Theatre. Marie-Pierre LISSOIR Verbalisation des savoirs musicaux en ethnomusicologie. Le chant khap des Tai Dam du Laos Verbalization of Musical Knowledge in Ethnomusicology : Khap of the Tai Dam in Laos The purpose of this article is to consider the verbalization of knowledge resulting from oral transmission, based on the case of the khap song of the Tai Dam 173 L’Année Mosaïque – 2013 / 2 ethnic group in Laos. The first part of the article is dedicated to ethnomusicology and orality, giving the reader an idea of what is at stake in this discipline and what are its problematical issues. The second part gives a concrete illustration by addressing the mechanisms of song-learning in two Tai Dam villages of Laos. The final part offers several methods and ways to state knowledge not explicitly verbalized, taking into account some of the cases occurring in the fieldwork. That way, we will see that the musical knowledge and its transmission mechanisms do not form a homogenous entity. These phenomena are complex and variable and cannot be reduced to the dichotomy oral/written, implicit/explicit, verbalized/non-verbalized. Étienne LOCK Alioune Diop et la naissance de l’Afrique noire contemporaine Alioune Diop and the Birth of the Contemporary Black Africa Africa after World War II was marked by the affirmation of awareness about the situation of the peoples of the Black Continent. This realization led to a real desire for change and effective participation in the creation of the new face that Humanity gives itself following a war that divided Europe politically, economically and ideologically into two antagonistic camps : the East and the West. In Africa, the challenge is therefore to initiate a succession of important changes : fight against the inferiority complex, meet the requirements for rehabilitations, reclaim black African inheritance and find its place at the crossroads of the civilization. These problems require the involvement of Africans themselves and reveal the important role of Alioune Diop in the birth of contemporary Africa. Indeed, this Senegalese intellectual who remains one of the greatest figures of Black Africa will spare no effort to restore the integrity of Africa through conventions, conferences, colloquiums and festivals. 174 CONTRIBUTEURS Pierre-Henry BAS est doctorant en histoire médiévale à l’Université de Lille 3 et instructeur en Arts Martiaux Historiques Européens.
