Smal f a u l t s and f r a c t u r e s t r a n s v e r s e t o t h e r e g i o n a l s t r i k e a r e o p a l i z e d and l o c a l l y c o n t a i n c o n c e n t r a t i o n s of m i l l e r i t e . The o r e h a s a b r e c c i a t e d , mottled appearance and ranges i n c o l o u r from white t o green, grey, and black. The b r e c c i a fragments a r e composed l a r g e l y of magnesite and o p a l . Quartz provides t h e m a t r i x and a l s o forms v e i n l e t s which c u t t h e o p a l and magnesite. The most abundant s u l p h i d e s a r e p y r i t e , m a r c a s i t e , and m i l l e r i t e . The m i l l e r i t e occurs l a r g e l y as microscopic n e e d l e - l i k e c r y s t a l s . Much of t h e m i l l e r i t e i s disseminated i l t h e q u a r t z , f r e q u e n t l y i n long sinuous bands p a r a l l e l t o t h e margins o f t h e q u a r t z v e i n s . Millerite i s a l s o disseminated throughout t h e masses of p y r i t e and marcasite. A sample of t h , o r e , s e n t t o t h e M n e s Branch, Ottawa, assayed 0.96% n i c k e l , Copper r e p o r t e d l y occurs n e a r where t h e f a u l t zone c r o s s e s t h e Nahlin River. The discovery was made by prospector Sigmund Muldal l a t e i n 1954. The following year he r e t u r n e d , f u r t h e r prospected t h e a r e a , - a n d staked a few claims on t h e main showings. I n 1956 Muldal.and h i s p a r t y returned t o s t a k e 56 claims f o r Canadian Explorers Ltd. i n t h e Tagoon S i l v e r , Web, Opal, Nor, J i m , and Windfall groups, extending n o r t h w e s t e r l y from Opal Lake- f o r - a b o u t 5& m i l e s . L a t e r i n t h e year numerous o t h e r p r o p e r t i e s were s t a k e d along t h e f a u l t zone, extending from s o u t h e a s t of Tedideech Lake northwesterly a c r o s s t h e Nahlin River, a d i s t a n c e of some 30 m i l e s . Work by Canadian Explorers Limited during 1956-1957 c o n s i s t e d of about 1,000 f e e t of open c u t t i n g and 1,290 f e e t of diamond d r i l l i n g . Moneta Porcupine Mines, Limited, i n a s s o c i a t i o n w i t h Cominex Corporation Limited, l o c a t e d 24 claims e a s t of and a d j o i n i n g t h e Canadian Explorers ground. Some diamond d r i l l i n g was done by t h e company b e f o r e t h e claims were dropped i n 1957. The B r i t i s h Yukon Exploration Company Limited staked claims towards both t h e s o u t h e a s t and northwest e x t r e m i t i e s of t h e f a u l t zone. Newkirk Mining Corporation Limited staked 64 claims on t h e southwest e x t e n s i o n of t h e f a u l t zone. Conwest Exploration Company Limited staked a s t r i p of ground a d j o i n i n g t h e above mentioned p r o p e r t i e s on t h e southwest. S i l v e r Standard Mines Limited staked t h e King Nickel group of 44 claims on s t r i k e t o t h e northwest of Canadian Explorers ground. Assessment work was r e p o r t e d and t h e claims were abandoned i n 1958 a f t e r e x p l o r a t i o n work by o t h e r companies on a d j o i n i n g p r o p e r t i e s proved disappointing. .
