How I Teach the Alphabet

1. Chanter Chanson de l'Alphabet Traditionnelle avec eux (voir section Chansons).
2. Répéter les lettres dans l'ordre de prononciation, utilisant ensemble L’Alphabet par
Groupe de Sons dans Leçons Audio.
3. Après, leur donner la fiche élève (dans Leçons Audio ou Fiches Élèves et suivre les
instructions.
4. Après cela, je prends une série d'aimants alphabet et les mets au tableau. Demander à un
petit groupe de deux ou trois élèves de mettre les lettres dans l'ordre de prononciation,
suivant le modèle de AHJK. Laissez les utiliser leur papier. Le prochain groupe devrait
travailler sans.
5. Ne pas oublier de leur rappeler qu'il y a six ou sept lettres qui ont la même prononciation
en anglais et en français (ça dépend si vous parlez de la prononciation Américaine ou
Anglaise.) Les lettres sont : F, L, M, N, O, S, et Z.
6. Autre solution : vous pouvez utiliser deux séries de lettres et organiser un concours entre
deux équipes pour mettre dans l'ordre de prononciation comme l'AHJK, les groupes de
BCDEGPTVZ, etc. La première équipe qui regroupe les lettres correctement est la
gagnante.
7. Les tests d'orthographe devraient être amusants ! Commencer avec leurs noms, parce
qu'ils auront plus besoin. Défiez-les avec des mots contenant des initiales qu'ils
connaissent.
Vous pouvez les écrire au tableau pour aider. Vous pouvez être créative avec des groupes qui
contenant les lettres difficiles entre anglais et français comme J et G, I et E. Utilisez des mots
contenant des nombres. Voici quelques idées de mots à épeler :

Kamakawiwoʻole. C'est le chanteur hawaïen qui a chanté «Somewhere over the Rainbow»
entendu très souvent à la radio l'an dernier. C'est tire du film Le Magicien d'Oz.

Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy (Dingo), Pluto, Huey, Dewey and Louie (les Neveux de
Donald)
Écrire les nombres cardinaux (l'un, deux, trois. ..) et ordinaux (premier, deuxième, le
tiers)
Répéter des noms des enfants qui ont les lettres clés (celles qui sont difficiles pour eux)
par exemple, les noms comme Rémy, Ingrid, Charles, Wendy...
Les jours de la semaine sont difficiles en anglais, parce qu'ils ont un Y, qui est dur pour
les enfants français.
Programmes de TV le et leur personnages : Zack et Cody, Miley Cyrus, Dora l'Explorateur,
Le Secouer, Hello Kitty (Kitty est un autre mot pour chat, comme minou.)
Un tour : leur demander d’épeler Hannah Montana en montrant sur le tableau. Ne pas le
dire tout haut. Quand ils ont fini d’épeler, demandez-leur de prononcer son nom. Ne les
laissez pas dire “Anna!” Si il le font, effacez le H, faites votre point sur le H.
NOTE : J'ai deux séries de lettres – l'un est une série en plastique bon marché des États-Unis.
L'autre est un Leap Frog Fridge Phonics pour les bébés. Il contient la chanson d'alphabet dessus,
et quand vous placez chaque lettre au milieu (B, par exemple) il dit, « B dit <prononciations
ici>! Chaque lettre fait un son ! B dit <prononciations ici>. Voir ma page de produits pour plus

How I Teach the Alphabet
1. Sing the Traditional Alphabet Song with them in the Chansons section.
2. Repeat the letters in order of pronunciation all together, using L'Alphabet par Groupe de
Sons in Leçons Audio.
3. Next, give them the worksheet in Leçons Audio or the one called L'Alphabet Par Groupe
de Sons from Fiches Élèves and follow the instructions.
4. After that, I take a set of (strong) alphabet magnets and put them up on the board. Ask a
small group of two or three students to put the letters in order of pronunciation,
following the AHJK model. Perhaps for the first round, let them use their paper. The next
group should work without it.
5. Don't forget to remind them there are six or seven letters that are the same in English
and French (depending on whether you are speaking about American or British English
pronunciation). They are F, L, M, N, O, S and Z.
6. For another alternative, you can use two sets of letters and ask the children to race
against each other in teams to put the letters in the AHJK, BCDEGPTVZ groups, etc. The
first team to group the letters correctly by sounds wins.
7. Spelling tests should be fun! Begin with their names, because they'll need those the most.
Then, challenge them with words with initials they know. You can write them on the
board to help. You can get creative with groups that have the key letters that are
difficult to master going from French to English like the letters H, J and G, I and E. Use
words that use numbers too. Here are some ideas:

The days of the week are great because they all have Y, which is hard to remember for
French kids.... Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
TV Programs and Characters: Zack and Cody, Miley Cyrus, Dora the Explorer, Shake It Up,
Hello Kitty (Kitty is another word for cat, like minet or minou.) A trick: ask them to spell
Hannah Montana by pointing to it on the board. Don't say it out loud. When they are
finished, ask them to say her name. Don't let them say “Anna!” If they do, erase the H, to
make your point that the H is pronounced in her name.
NOTE: I have two sets of letters – one is a cheap plastic set from the US. The other is a Leap Frog
Fridge Phonics game for toddlers. It's got the alphabet song on it, and when you place each
letter in the middle (B, for example) it says, « B says <pronunciations here>! Every letter makes
