Figure 1: Visitors by Air and Day visitors in March 2012
In March 2012, tourism arrival statistics registered 24% of international visitors by air and 76% were
day visitors by cruise ship. According to the records, the month of March indicated a rise in the
number of visitor arrivals by 35% over February 2012. In comparison to the same period of previous
year, visitors also show an increase of 20%. This is due to a rise in the number of holiday visitor
arrivals to Vanuatu in March 2012.
There was a very large increase in cruise ship visitors (day visitors) for the month of March 2012
compared to March 2011 due to a higher number of cruise ship visits in March 2012, increasing from
5 to 12. Out of the total number of visiting cruise ships in March 2012, ten carried more than 2,300
passengers each as compared to only four in March 2011. However, when compared to the previous
months, statistics were still lower than February with a decrease of 21% due to lower number of
cruise ship visits.
