SYNOPSIS (English):
The playwright draws inspiration from a recent tabloid story (Austria 2006) that had a huge impact.
Austria. Eight years ago, a ten year old girl is kidnapped by a thirty-six year old man and imprisoned in
the basement of his house. She stays there for eight years, alone with him. At the age of eighteen, the
young woman manages to escape, the man commits suicide. She says the man has become a part of
her life and that she herself is somehow to some extent even “grieving”. The author investigates the
relation between love and dependence, love and possession. A man wants to keep a young girl
“protected” from the outside world - he takes away her liberty because he dreams of a pure and
absolute love.
SYNOPSIS (français):
L’auteur s’inspire d’un fait divers récent (Autriche, 2006) qui a eu beaucoup de retentissement.
Autriche. Huit ans plus tôt, une jeune fille de dix ans avait été enlevée par un homme de trente-six
ans, qui l’avait séquestrée dans la cave de sa maison. Elle y passera huit ans, seule avec lui. À l’âge
de dix-huit ans, la jeune fille réussit à s’évader, à la suite de quoi l’homme se suicide. Elle déclare que
cet homme fut une partie de sa vie et qu’elle est « en quelque sorte en deuil ». L’auteur pose ici la
question du rapport entre amour et dépendance, amour et possession. Un homme veut garder une
jeune fille « protégée » du monde extérieur, il la prive de sa liberté parce qu’il rêve d’un amour pur et
absolu.
