TEST PROCEDURE
Introduction
This test report should be read in conjunction with the Standard BS63751:2009 Performance of windows and doors - Part 1: Classification for
weathertightness and guidance on selection and specification.
The specimens were judged on their ability to comply with the performance
criteria as required in BS 6375-1:2009 Clauses 6 to 8.
Instruction to
Test
At the request of the customer named within this report, the sample assembly
was tested using test methods specified within:
BS 6375-1:2009
Performance of doors and windows – Part 1:
Classification for weathertightness and guidance on
selection and specification.
And detailed within:
BS EN 1026
BS EN 1027:2000
BS EN 12211
Test
Equipment
Windows and doors – Air permeability – Test method.
Windows and doors – Watertightness – Test method.
Windows and doors – Resistance to wind load – Test
method
Mila Test Rigs Nos. 02 and 11, purpose designed and built for the application
of tests as described within BS 6375-1:2009.
All equipment used for the measurement of time, force, distance, pressure or
flow, is calibrated, with traceability to National Standards, using UKAS
Accredited Testing Laboratories. At the time of this test all equipment was
within its calibration period and all recorded results within the tolerances
permitted by the Test Standard.
Mounting of
Test
Specimen
In keeping with the requirements detailed within BS 6375-1:2009 the test
sample was delivered mounted into a sub-frame made from 100mm x 75mm
(Nominal) timber. Mounting screws being driven from opening cavity of outer
frame, through the frame section and into timber sub-frame, so as to simulate
normal installation work practice. All joints between sample and test apparatus
were sealed.
Installation
The complete assemblies were installed plumb and square in the test rigs and
checked for overlap (cover) at the frame over-rebate flanges, perimeter gap /
clearances and correct operation.

Air infiltration characteristics were determined in accordance with BS EN
1026:200 . Air flow through the test sample was measured at pressure
differential increments until the required test criterion. By calculation, air flow
was redefined as permeability relative to total length of opening joints and
average leakage per metre square of specimen area.
Water penetration characteristics were determined in accordance with BS EN
1027. During the initial period of 15 minutes, air pressure was not applied.
Following this 15 minutes soaking, air pressure was applied in specified
increments and held for 5 minute intervals at each increment. Regular checks
for water penetration were made.
Ability to Resist Wind loads were determined in accordance with BS EN
12211using the interpretation outlined within BS 6375:Pt 1:2009. During the
test, 50 pulses at a pressure predetermined by the classification required were
applied in the negative and positive direction.
