TF1 wins 95 of 100 best TV audience ratings in 2003
TF1 wins 95 of 100 best TV audience ratings in 2003 Boulogne, 1 January 2004, For the second year running, TF1 won 95 of the 100 best TV audience ratings in 2003. Sixty of the 95 programmes are dramas co-produced by TF1. Around 40 of them are based on familiar TF1 characters: Julie Lescaut, Les Cordier Juge et Flic, Une Femme d’Honneur, Navarro, Sauveur Giordano, Joséphine Ange Gardien, Commissaire Moulin, Femmes de Loi, Père et Maire and so on. New series also got off to a good start, making an immediate entry into the ranking: Le Dirlo, Diane Femme Flic, Péril Imminent, Franck Keller and Malone, which built on its success in 2002. Four of the five episodes of the summer serial Le Bleu de l’Océan appear in the ranking. Moreover, the two episodes of L’Affaire Dominici hold first and fourth place, and an episode of Jean Moulin also features in the list. Lastly, two one-off TV films, Les Frangines and Une Femme si Parfaite, reflect the success of the new Wednesday drama slot introduced in September. News bulletins performed particularly well in 2003: since the ranking only includes the mostwatched news programme in both the 1pm and 8pm slot, it is worth noting that the number of 8pm slots drawing more than 10 million viewers stood at 54 compared with 40 the previous year. The 8pm bulletin’s audience share rose from 40% to 41% in 2003. The 1pm slot continued to enjoy strong ratings, bringing in an audience share of 52% and an average audience of 7 million. Films held 17 places, including seven French productions (La Vérité si je Mens 2, La Folie des Grandeurs, Le Placard, Les Rivières Pourpres, Le Dîner de Cons, etc.). Event-based programmes, such as the Enfoirés concert in sixth spot and the final of Star Academy, which achieved a remarkable performance capturing more than 10 million viewers, show that they are an essential part of a major general-interest channel’s programme schedule. This renewed performance once again confirms TF1’s status as leading channel, scoring the highest ratings in prime-time slots 9 out of 10 days in the year.
