19th and 20th centuries
An exhibition of about 200 works of various kinds representing male nudity and the male body.
From academic studies representing painters’ and sculptors’ models
- to sport, wrestling (in the late 19th century in particular), presenting semi-clad men in poses still
echoed in more modern photographs,
- to the sophisticated nudes of the 1930s, in the context of naturism,
- to athletic nudes of the 1940s and 1950s, an enduring theme allowing artists to unveil the male
body,
- to exotic nudes,
To contemporary iconography.
Drawings paintings and photographs will be linked.
