A director of masterpieces which have left their mark on the genre
(Halloween, The Thing, In the Mouth of Madness), Carpenter
formed a particularly prolific pact with horror and science fiction
filmmaking, right from his very first film, Dark Star. A subversive
filmmaker haunted by the double spectre of Western and Horror
films, John Carpenter has imposed himself through his 17 films as
the rightful and persistent representative of a genre he has
repeatedly thrown into question. This documentary is a foray into
Carpenter's world in the company of the filmmaker. It paints the
portrait of the director and explains his oeuvre through archives
and interviews with actors, directors and producers, such as Wes
Craven, Stephen King, Kurt Russell and Bertrand Tavernier.

genre (Halloween, La Chose, L'Antre de la Folie), Carpenter a établi
depuis son premier film, Dark Star, un pacte particulièrement prolifique
avec le cinéma de la peur et de la science-fiction. Cinéaste subversif
hanté par le double spectre du western et du cinéma fantastique,
John Carpenter s'est imposé au fil de ses 17 films comme le digne et
tenace représentant d'un genre qu'il n'a cessé de questionner. Ce
documentaire propose une immersion en compagnie de Carpenter
dans l'univers du cinéaste afin d'en dresser le portrait et d'expliciter
son oeuvre au travers d'archives et de rencontres avec des acteurs,
réalisateurs, producteurs tels que Wes Craven, Stephen King, Kurt
Russel ou encore Bertrand Tavernier.
