All too often, sexuality is still the subject of misconceptions and diktats. Many problems associated with sexuality (gender equality, sex education, paedophilia, same-sex marriage, etc.) have aroused the interest of not just scientists, but also lawmakers and healthcare providers. Progress in research techniques in physiology, neurobiology and genetics have improved knowledge and helped us to think again about, and even eliminate, old and unnecessary prejudices. On the same level, the development of evolutionary psychology and the studies carried out on attachment styles have allowed us to understand the importance of these early attachment styles on romantic and sexual relationships. This programme offers to meet the expectations of the professionals concerned by acquiring the necessary skills in terms of knowledge, know-how and know-how-to-be through an intensive training in clinical sexology. Its goal would be to deepen the understanding of sexuality in a humanistic and integrative perspective. It trains professionals with an interdisciplinary approach to sexuality, taking into account the complexity of situations not only from the point of view of the person but also the couple, the family and the society. In this continuously-evolving field, this training programme allows students to acquire and update their scientific knowledge and put it into practice. While providing an in-depth understanding of sexuality in a multicultural society, this programme offers the means to think about one¿s own professional practice, especially in terms of clinical management but also in terms of information, prevention, advice and support. Although theme focused, this certificate offers students placements in clinical surroundings that innovatively meet a real demand for training. This new certificate will build on the knowledge and practice students acquired during their initial training. At the end of it, they will have multidisciplinary training in fundamental concepts and various methodological approaches concerning sexuality problems. Special conditions of access / students concerned This course is more specifically targeted at students holding a university Masters in medicine, psychology, physiotherapy, public health, law (criminology) or a Bachelors in nursing. Students who do not meet these requirements may make an individual request for enrolment from the Scientific Director of the Certificate. All applicants should send their application by email (CV and cover letter) to the Scientific Director ([email protected]). Applicants will then attend an interview to assess their professional background with the Scientific Director or one of the teaching staff from the Certificate. They may then approve your enrolment with the ULg Continuing Training Unit. A minimum of 15 enrolments for the certificate is required for the training programme to take place. A total of 25 enrolments may not be exceeded. Anyone who meets the admission criteria can participate in one of the theoretical training modules without enrolling for the whole certificate. They will be given a certificate of participation in the theoretical module at the end of it. Students will be granted an exemption for this module if they wish to take the whole certificate later on. Duration of the training The University Certificate in Clinical Sexology is a one-year course, running from September to September for a total of 35 ECTS.
