Subject: Raglan Mine celebrates its 15th anniversary
Dear employees,
We are pleased to highlight today a very special day: Raglan Mine’s 15th anniversary. It was in fact December 4, 1997,
that our concentrator was put into service and that, consequently, Raglan Mine officially began its production.
In 15 years, our operations have greatly evolved and we have achieved many milestones. These milestones have enabled
us to confirm our importance within the Nickel Group and now, allow Xstrata Nickel to be the fourth largest nickel
producer of the world. Following are some key elements of our history:
1995: The Raglan Agreement is signed
1997: Raglan Mine enters into production
1998: Raglan Mine is brought into commercial production
2005: The autogenous mill at the plant is converted into a semi-autogenous mill to increase production rate
and capacity to process harder ore
2006: Xstrata completes acquisition of Falconbridge
2008: Raglan Mine’s annual production reaches 1.3 million tonnes of ore
2011: Raglan Mine passes the mark of CDN$100 million paid to the host communities and invests US$530
million to increase its nickel production capacity to 40,000 tonnes
We can be proud of what we have accomplished over the past 15 years. You, our employees, are essential components
of these achievements and we thank you for your contribution to the success of Raglan Mine for the past years and those
to come. We also wish to take advantage of this special day to celebrate the commitment of the 119 employees who
were employed at Raglan Mine December 4, 1997, and who are still with us today. You will find a list of these pioneers in
the appendix. Join us by congratulating them for their dedication and by thanking them for their significant contribution
to our various successes!
We have important projects to achieve for years to come, including our 40ktpa project. These will ensure the growth of
Raglan Mine and will allow Xstrata Nickel to stand out even more on the global marketplace. We have a bright future
ahead of us and it is the sum of each of our strengths that will enable us to realize these projects. Our dearest wish is for
coming years to be filled with success in terms of health and safety, because there is nothing that is more precious.
To celebrate this happy anniversary, activities will be held throughout the year. We invite you to pay attention to these
and, of course, to take part in them.
