With hybrid use of video, Soft virtuosity, still humid, on the edge (2015), the latest work by Marie Chouinard, reveals “live
film of first class dance.” - Wilhelm Triebold, Tagblatt, Stuttgart, 2015.
“With everything reduced to such inspired essentials, the evening rose to the highest form of art, propelled by a choreographer
operating at her creative peak, where we could truly expect the unexpected.” - Jane Vranish (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 2013)
about HENRI MICHAUX : MOUVEMENTS (2011)
“Chouinard’s Rite of Spring [1993] [is] most probably one of the most beautifully choreographed of Stravinsky’s pieces.”
- Valérie Lehman, Le Devoir, Montréal, 1995
“Instead of a dancer playing a Faun, there was a real live Faun. I still don’t understand how Marie Chouinard managed
to convince this real live faun to appear before us. No human, be it dancer or otherwise, could move like this Faun did.
People just don’t. [...] This Faun is a work of genius. Mesmerizing, raw and beyond any earthly thing I have witnessed.”
- Teri McCollum (Freelance Dance Writer, San Francisco, 2009) about Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun (1994)

“GYMNOPÉDIES [2013] is sensuous and languorous. […] In this work Chouinard has achieved what only the best artists can:
she travels to the very depths of our collective psyche, and brings what she finds there out into the open for all to see.”
- Nancy Berman, Bachtrack, 2013
“In 24 Preludes by Chopin [1999] [...] Ms. Chouinard takes her creativity onto an impressive and higher formal level.”
- Anna Kisselgoff, The New York Times, 2003
“Étude no 1 [2001] is a virtuosic solo. […] An incredibly raw performance. It’s half an hour inside a dancer’s skin in which the
choreographer has blurred the lines between performing and existing.” - Susan Walker, Toronto Star, 2002
