REACH Compliance Project

The student will be part of the core team that coordinates the activities about the
REACH compliance in the entire company. It will be a good opportunity for the student
to improve his project management skills in a very large project with high visibility
L'étudiant embauché fera partie de l'équipe qui coordonne les activités de
transformation de la compagnie pour la conformité à la règlementation REACH. Ce
stage est une opportunité d'améliorer ses habiletés de gestion de projet.
REACh is a law (2007) enacted by the European Commission and managed by the
European Chemical Agency (ECHA). REACh is the acronym for Registration, Evaluation,
Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. This regulation has been adopted to
improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can
be posed by chemicals.
In a nutshell, 161 “substances of very high concerns (SVHC)” have been identified for
which any producer has the obligation to declare to their customers in European Union.
Also, 31 of the SVHC will be banned on the EU territory after a defined sunset date. To
be compliant to this regulation and make sure that the supply chain won’t be
interrupted due to banned substances after their sunset date, P&WC has:
•
to conduct analysis to understand the quantity of these SVHC in all of his
products,
•
to survey all of its suppliers world-wide to understand the usage of the banned
substances and manage the actions plan to replace these substances or to apply for an
authorization before the sunset date
•
to implement a new system that will manage the duty of communication to
customers when products are shipped to the European Union.
All of these activities should be driven in parallel and the issues meet by a sub-team
may have a major impact on the others initiatives. The student will have the

Daily tasks:
responsibilities to gather the information about the progress and the issues identified
from the different sub-teams around the world, to maintain the main project plan and
to understand the impact on the critical path. The documents that will be created or
handled by the student won’t have any technical data classified higher than 9E991. All
of these documents will be stored on the REACH Project Site classified as a Low Tech
site.
REACh est une loi (2007) adoptée par la Commission européenne et gérée par l'Agence
européenne des produits chimiques (ECHA). REACh est l'acronyme pour “Registration,
Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals”. Ce règlement a été adopté
pour améliorer la protection de la santé humaine et l'environnement contre les risques
que peuvent poser les produits chimiques.
En un mot, 161 «substances très préoccupantes (SVHC)» ont été identifiés pour
lesquels tous les fabricants de produits ont l'obligation de déclarer leur présence à leurs
clients de l'Union européenne. En outre, 31 des substances très préoccupantes seront
même interdits sur le territoire de l'UE après une certaine date définie par l’Agence
européenne des produits chimiques. Pour être conforme à cette réglementation et
assurez que la chaîne d'approvisionnement ne sera pas interrompu en raison des
substances bannies, P&WC doit:
• procéder à des analyses pour comprendre la quantité de ces SVHC dans tous ses
produits,
• étudier l'ensemble de ses fournisseurs pour comprendre l'utilisation des substances
interdites et de gérer les actions de remplacement de ces substances ou de demander
une autorisation avant la date d'expiration
• mettre en place un nouveau système qui va gérer l’information nécessaire quant au
contenu des SVHC afin de permettre la communication adéquate à ses clients lorsque
ses produits sont expédiés dans l’union européenne.
Toutes ces activités doivent être exécutées en parallèle et il est fort possible que les
problèmes rencontrés par une équipe aient un impact majeur sur les autres initiatives.
L'étudiant aura entre autres, la responsabilité de faire le suivi des progrès et des
problèmes identifiés par les différentes équipes à travers le monde, afin de maintenir le
plan principal du projet à jour et afin de comprendre l'impact des délais. Les documents
qui seront créés ou manipulés par l'étudiant ne contiendront pas de données
techniques de classification supérieur à 9E991. Tous les documents du projet seront
stockés sur le site du projet REACH (Low Tech)
