Replacing the HX1 or the HX1+ CPU Board 1. Look at figures #1 and #2. Identify which type of CPU Board you have, HX1+ or HX1. Remove following from the HX1 or HX1+ CPU board: a. Unplug the cable going to the Scan Controller. b. Unplug the Black wire on the “GND” terminal of the CPU board. (Your sign may have more that one Black wire attached to the “GND” terminals. c. Unplug the Blue wire on the “VCC” terminal of the CPU board. (Your sign may have more that one Blue wire attached to the “VCC” terminals. d. Unplug the cable going to the “Temp” probe. (For HX1+ CPU’s this cable is found only on ID#1. For HX1 CPU’s, ID#1 and ID#2 may both have a cable connected to this connector. e. Unplug the cable attached to the RS232 or RS485 connector. Your sign will either have a cable attached to the RS232 or RS485 connector depending on the communications protocol of your sign. NOTE: Be sure and mark on the cable the connector it was removed from. f. On HX1+ CPUs only, unplug the RJ45 cable that goes to the other side of the sign (If this is a 2 sided sign) g. Unplug the cable going to the light sensor. h. Remove the 4 Phillips screws securing the CPU board to the sign. i. Install following on the HX1 or HX1+ CPU board: a. It’s very important to make sure you install CPU board for ID#1 into the ID#1 side of the sign and CPU board ID#2 into ID#2 side if the sign. ID#1 side of the sign has the temperature probe installed in the bottom left corner of the cabinet. b. Attach the cable going to the Scan Controller. c. Attach the Black wire on the “GND” terminal of the CPU board. (Your sign may have more that one Black wire attached to the “GND” terminals. d. Attach the Blue wire on the “VCC” terminal of the CPU board. (Your sign may have more that one Blue wire attached to the “VCC” terminals. e. Attach the cable going to the “Temp” probe. (This cable is found only on ID#1. ID#2 does not have anything connected to this connector. f. Attach the cable attached to the RS232 or RS485 connector. Your sign will either have a cable attached to the RS232 or RS485 connector depending on the communications protocol of your sign. NOTE: Be sure and mark on the cable the connector it was removed from. g. On HX1+ CPUs only, attach the RJ45 cable that goes to the other side of the sign (If this is a 2 sided sign). h. Attach the cable going to the light sensor. i. Install the 4 Phillips screws securing the CPU boar to the sign. j. Position the jumper at position “JP5”to the left 2 pins for RS485 communications and on the right pins for RS232 communications. Compare the new CPU board to the CPU board you removed earlier.
