Nous vous remercions de l'intérêt que vous portez pour nos
bicyclettes.. Le monde du vélo a été marqué par une vague
importante d'innovations ces dernières années. De nombreuses techniques innovantes ont fait leur apparition sur le
marché; certaines n'ont été que des tendances éphémères,
mais d'autres représentent des évolutions techniques durables, s'inscrivant sur le long terme. Vous retrouverez certaines
de ces techniques nouvelles chez nous.
Il est souvent fondamental de bien identifier sa niche afin d'y
développer le meilleur produit qui soit, c'est justement ce à
quoi nous aspirons. Des techniques telles que l'utilisation d'une
courroie dentée ou l'alimentation électrique USB The Plug
modifient de manière déterminante la bicyclette telle que nous
la connaissons par des innovations et de nouvelles possibilités
sans le fardeau d'une technique trop compliquée.
Notre nouveau modèle Metropolitan Xplore combine plusieurs de ces innovations : transmission par courroie, système de changement de vitesses Pinion ainsi que notre
nouveau concept de sécurité CITY SAFETY. Le Metropolitan
s'approche du modèle de vélo de type urbain nécessitant
peu d'entretien et adapté aux cyclistes-navetteurs; sur ce
marché, il s'agit probablement du produit le mieux adapté à
ce jour.
Quel que soit le modèle de votre choix, tous les vélos fabriqués par tout terrain ont un point commun: ils sont développés, testés et montés par des mécaniciens expérimentés du
secteur à Gundelfingen près de Fribourg. Tous les cadres de
vélo font l'objet d'une pulvérisation dans nos propres unités de
revêtement par poudre et sont soumis à un contrôle de qualité
exigeant.

Dear readers,
We’re delighted you’re interested in our bikes. The
biking world has never seen as many innovations
as it has in the last few years. Lots of new technology has been launched on the market, some as
fashionable trends, others as permanent technical
developments which will be used in the long-term.
Some of this new technology can be found in our
products, but there is also some you won’t find anywhere.
In many cases, it is important to look for a niche and
develop the best possible product within this. That’s
what we strive for. Technologies like belt drives and
The Plug USB power supply affect and change the
way we think about cycling. New developments –
new possibilities, but without the burden of increasingly complex usability.
Our new Metropolitan Xplore model combines
several of these new technical features: belt
drive, pinion gearbox, and our new CITY SAFETY
concept. The Metropolitan takes us one step closer to a low-maintenance, urban commuter bike –
perhaps the most consistent, systematic product
ever to be launched on the market.
Whatever model you choose, there’s one thing all
tout terrain bikes have in common: they are developed, tested and assembled by experienced
bike mechanics in Gundelfingen, near Freiburg. All
frames are powdered at our own powder-coating
plant, thereby undergoing strict quality controls.
We aim to provide you with a perfect bicycle, which
is tailored to your personal needs and brings you

PRACTICAL TESTS
MORE THAN COLOUR
All tout terrain products are developed and designed
in Freiburg, at the edge of the Black Forest. It is the
mix of modern CAD methods and manufacturing
know-how which allows unique products to be created.
Having our own in-house development department
shortens development times and enables prompt
implementation of personalised and innovative solutions. By building our own prototypes, we know how to
manufacture a product both theoretically and in practice, enabling us to work more closely with our suppliers, and develop
better solutions than
would be possible
without this skilled
craftsmanship.
Shorter development cycles enable us to test new
products earlier and for longer under “real” conditions. These practical tests are very useful for everyday bikes and kids trailers, as they are conducted over
a few months and thus take into account a wide variety of environmental influences.
The long-term strain on touring and everyday bikes tends to be higher than for sports bicycles, because a touring or everyday bike
cannot always be maintained as intensively
A bike’s surface initially serves to give the product
a personal touch; something of its own – similar to a
piece of furniture. But the surface is more than just
the colour. It helps determine a bike’s durability, and is
exposed to extreme strains – from mechanical stress,
to daily use, to road salt from all-year-round usage. In
addition to this are conservation requirements. With
our own surface treatment line, which began operation in 2012, we are able to fulfil and exceed these requirements through strict process controls. All tout

assembled in Freiburg,
meaning we can guarantee a consistently
high quality, and also
fulfil your personal requirements.

Tous les produits de tout terrain sont développés et
dessinés à Fribourg, au pied de la forêt Noire. C'est la
combinaison de méthodes modernes de dessin assisté
par ordinateur et de savoir-faire dans la fabrication
qui donne naissance à des produits uniques en leur
genre. Un service de développement au sein de notre
maison réduit le temps nécessaire à celui-ci et permet
une mise en œuvre rapide de solutions individuelles
et novatrices. Grâce à nos propres prototypes, nous
n'avons pas seulement une connaissance théorique de
la construction de nos produits, mais également une
connaissance pratique. Cela nous permet de coopérer
de manière plus étroite avec nos fournisseurs et de
développer des solutions plus adaptées que nous ne
pourrions réaliser sans ce savoir-faire dans la fabrication.

un meuble. Mais la finition, c'est bien plus que la seule
couleur. Elle joue en effet un rôle crucial dans la longévité d'une bicyclette, car elle est soumise à de nombreuses et de lourdes sollicitations : la sollicitation
mécanique, celle due à l'usage quotidien, celle occasionnée par le sel d'épandage pour ne citer que cellesci. Nous devons par ailleurs respecter les exigences
environnementales. Notre unité de finition entrée en
service en 2012 nous permet de répondre à toutes ces
exigences - et même d'aller au-delà - grâce à un contrôle de processus exigeant.
Tous les produits tout terrain sont peints par poudrage
et montés à Fribourg. Ainsi, nous pouvons continuer à

Innovation and quality – that’s what tout terrain stands
for. We concentrate on developing and manufacturing well-thought-out, innovative products which are
consistently tailored to users’ needs, offer maximum
riding pleasure, require little maintenance, and are
long-lasting.
In doing so, our main focus is the bike as a whole. The
heart of the vehicle, i.e. the frame and fork, determine
riding pleasure and handling. It is a well known fact
that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and
a “well-rounded” product featuring the best materials
and most innovative design can only be created with
care and skilful craftsmanship.
Along with the bike’s handling,
it is the components' ergonomics, and therefore your
seating posture on the bike, which are crucial when
it comes to comfort. The components at work here
are all primary components which you come into direct contact with, e.g. handles. These are joined by the
secondary components, which significantly influence
seating position, e.g. handlebars and stem.
Our Ergofit concept provides you with a wide range
of components which are the result of customer feedback from recent years. We use our own Black Label
components here, and supplement them with highquality brands such as Syntace and Jeff Jones.

the globe. But cyclists are individualists, and we want
to support this.

from many appropriate combinations. There is a wide
variety of fittings and components on offer, ranging
from pedals to handles, and also including accessories.
You can select your preferred colour from a vast array
of colours, and have your bike painted in this. You are
welcome to send us your personal requests, and we’ll
build you a personalised tout terrain bike as part of
our à la carte service. You choose:

attach individual bosses and brake bosses to your tout

Safety is an important criterion for cyclists,
appearing in all kinds of forms. Road traffic safety
seeks to prevent accidents, and protect items against
theft. With our City Safety concept, we offer you solutions for
Disc brakes shorten braking distances, particularly in
wet conditions. All tout terrain bikes are thus equipped
with disc brakes as a standard, thereby increasing
your bike’s active safety.

[The City of London is a small area within Greater
London. It is the historic core of London around which
the modern conurbation grew and has held city status
since time immemorial. The City’s boundaries have remained almost unchanged since the Middle Ages, and
it is now only a tiny part of the metropolis of London,
though it remains a notable part of central London.

its high-quality components. As of now we are using
a lighter frame for The City with monostay seatstays,
which makes the bike more agile. Besides Alfine and
Rohloff gear hubs The City can be equiped with a Singlespeed drive. This version is characterised by high
quality Hope hubs which ensure worry free cycling. In
all specifications The City is available with a Carbon
Drive® belt and therefore requires even lower maintenance.
The City II, bolide urbain profilé, ne fait pas seulement

After two years of development, we can
present our first Pinion bike, the tout
terrain Metropolitan Xplore, with TBA technology (Triangular Belt Adjustment). This
system allows the belt and pinion drive to
be combined, without having to allow for
the disadvantages of an adjustable dropout.
The gearbox itself is born of the passion for
cycling, and the conviction that there must
be a better gearshift solution for bikes than
the traditional derailleur gears. So it was
that two young engineers from Stuttgart
had the vision of applying their knowledge
of automotive techniques and standards to
bike gearshift assembly. And thus Pinion
was born. It has now been 7 years since a
vision became a reality, since drafts and a
fixed idea became a sophisticated product,

The Metropolitan Xplore combines several groundbreaking technical developments from recent years:
Belt drive, pinion gearbox and the tout terrain CITY
SAFETY concept. The Metropolitan Xplore takes us
one step closer to a low-maintenance, urban commuter bike – perhaps the most consistent, systematic
product ever to be launched on the market.
The Carbon Drive belt makes daily cycling better, easier and cleaner, enabling the smooth, noiseless riding
every cyclist dreams of. The unique, new TBA system
pending patent makes it easy to tension the belt, without having to adjust the dropout.

which has been in existence since the medieval ages.
It served the exchange of trade goods and promoted
the acquisition of knowledge of other cultures. From
the Mediterranean Sea to China, running more or less

through desert, this is one of the most inhospitable
routes on the planet. The complete route runs for
around 8000 km and is surely one of the most difficult
and challenging that one can tackle with a bicycle.]

The Silkroad Xplore is a touring bike that meets with
the highest expectations. Back in 2012, we combined
for the first time the Pinion transmission and a steel
frame to a travel bike and thus is the ideal setting for
worry-free cycling.
The pinion transmission, a German development
of designers who had previously been active in the
transmission center for Porsche, is integrated in the
Silkroad Xplore frame. With its 18 gears, it delivers a
huge response spectrum at a very good range of gear
ratios, and ideal conditions for long-distance touring.
The central arrangement of the transmission provides
a balanced weight and therefore perfect handling.
Pour la première fois associé à un cadre d’acier sur
une bicyclette de grande randonnée, ce changement
de vitesses permet une vie de cycliste sans souci. Le

TANAMI XPLORE
[The Tanami Road is a trunk road in northern Australia
and runs from just north of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory to the town of Halls Creek in Western
Australia’s Kimberley region. With its 1.055 km it is 1
of the 11 longest roads in Australia and the most direct
route from Alice Springs to the Kimberley, passing
through the Tanami Desert.

Panamericana, the central gearing and reduced
unsprung masses make the handling of the Panamericana Xplore even more agile.
The combination of a full-suspension touring bike
with the Pinion drive is ideal because the rear
suspension is more sensitive thanks to the reduced unsprung mass. The rear suspension is relieved of drive influences due to minimal chain
growth. The low and centrally located centre of
gravity and a light rear wheel improve handling,
suspension and ride dynamics.
