De kortfilm A day will come my
future will be your past neemt je
mee naar een Brussels park in de 19de
eeuw. In een romantische setting ont­
moeten twee jonge vrouwen elkaar.
De zonnige dag inspireert hen om te
mijmeren over hun leven, vriendschap, carrière, familie, liefde en ziekte.
Langzaam wordt duidelijk dat het leven
waar ze over praten een beeld is van een
toekomst die zich nog moet ontrollen.
Aan een ‘spreekwoordenslinger’ hangen
zo’n 50 kleine voorwerpen die allemaal
een gezegde voorstellen en binnen de
orale traditie van de Lega (Congo)
fungeren als dragers van wijsheid. De
betekenis van de objecten ligt niet vast,
maar wordt continu bevraagd en aangepast door de gemeenschap. Sarah
van Lamsweerde vroeg zich af wat zo’n
instrument zou kunnen betekenen binnen
onze huidige, Westerse samenleving.
Verbazingwekkend vertrouwde en toch
duidelijk hedendaagse voorwerpen onthullen reële én imaginaire metaforen, en
openen een blik op mogelijke symbolen en
kennis uit onze hedendaagse jungle.
Dit is het verhaal van een burger. Een
man. Twee mannen. Een beetje zoals jij.
Een beetje zoals ik. Een beetje anders.
Een klein beetje hetzelfde. Het verhaal
van een dubbelganger. Het laatste
oordeel. Uitgesteld. Gecommuniceerd,
geschreven, geschreeuwd, op papier.
Doelgerichte berichten. Fotokopietjes.
Voor iedereen. En voor niemand.
Kladjes, die uitkomen. Die verwarren. Kleine boodschappen doorheen
de stad. Praktijken van het leven van
alledag. Sporen van een mensenleven.
Opmerkelijk. Zo staat het geschreven.
Een even verrassende als eenvoudige
voorstelling rond fictie en realiteit…
Light Years Away is een gidsbeurt
door speleologen in het donker van het
theater. Een plek waar alles waarde
heeft: het kleine en het grote, het zichtbare en het onzichtbare, het organische
en het levensloze, het chronologische en
het tijdloze…
Dit is een film buiten het scherm,
een documentaire zonder gezichten, een
voorstelling belicht met een zaklamp.
Een bijzondere ervaring.
‘Proverb strings’ usually carry 50
miniature objects, which represent a
proverb and traditionally function as
carriers of wisdom in the oral tradi­
tion of the Lega, in Congo. The mean­
ing of these objects is not fixed but
continuously discussed and adjusted by
the community. Sarah van Lamsweerde
questions what it would mean to
develop such a device in our current
western society. Real and imagined
metaphors emerge through strangely
familiar but clearly contemporary
objects, opening a view on possible
symbols and knowledge could from our
contemporary jungle.
This is the story of a citizen. A man.
Two men. A bit like you. A bit like
me. A little different. A little bit the
same. The story of a double. The last
judgement. Postponed. Communicated,
written, shouted, on paper. Messages
destined. Photocopies. For everyone.
And for no-one. Drafts, making do.
That confuse. Little messages moving
through the city. Practices of everyday
life. Traces of a life. Remarkable. Thus
it is written.
A simple but surprising perfor­
mance about fiction and reality…
A day will come my future will be
your past is about life itself and the
memory of it, about expectations and
disappointments. On an early sum­
mer’s day in a park, two young women
are reminiscing about their former
friendship and personal life. Their
dialogue takes place in the present
and they are using the present tense
to express themselves. However, after
a while it becomes clear that the life
they are talking about, is actually a
projection of a picture of the future.
Deux jeunes femmes dans un parc un
jour d’été évoquent leur amitié passée
et leurs vies personnelles. Leur dialogue
prend place dans le présent et elles
utilisent le temps présent pour parler
d’elles-mêmes. Cependant, après un
certain temps, il devient clair que la
vie dont elles parlent est en réalité la
projection d’un futur imaginé.
Les cordes à proverbes portent habituellement 50 objets miniatures qui
chacun représentent un proverbe et
fonctionnent comme porteurs de sagesse
populaire dans la tradition orale des
Lega, au Congo. Sarah Van Lamsweerde
questionne la fonction potentielle d’un
tel objet dans notre société occidentale
contemporaine. Des métaphores réelles
et imaginées émergent au travers
d’objets contemporains étranges et
cependant familiers, donnant un aperçu
des symboles et connaissances qui pourraient être récoltés dans notre jungle
contemporaine.
C’est l’histoire d’un citoyen. D’un homme.
De deux hommes. Un peu comme vous.
Un peu comme moi. L’histoire d’un
double. D’un Jugement Dernier. Reporté.
Communiqué, écris, hurlé, sur papier.

messages qui bougent à travers la ville.

mance illuminated by a torch.
Light Years Away est une visite guidée
par un spéléologue au cœur des ténèbres
du théâtre. Un lieu où tout a une valeur :
le grand et le petit, le visible et l’invisible,
l’organique et l’inanimé, le chronologique
et l’intemporel…
Ceci est un film hors écran, un documentaire sans visage, une performance

Helsinki is ‘oldschool spoken-word’ voor
Nieuwe Tijden, opgebouwd uit honderden tekstfragmenten die één voor één
voorgelezen worden, zonder specifieke
logica - net als de informatiestroom
die uit alle richtingen op ons afgevuurd
wordt. Als een tekst-DJ die een mashup maakt.
Ontelbare bronnen: dagboeknotities,
flarden gesprek van etentjes bij vrienden, seks chats en psychotherapiesessie
gemixt tot een monoloog vol verrassende
tussenstops. Momenten van intimiteit
verliezen hun betekenis en terloopse uitspraken worden onderbouwde meningen
als ze – toevallig - tussen de juiste twee
zinnen worden gesandwiched…
Helsinki is oldschool spoken-word for
the new age. Composed of hundreds
of text fragments read one by one
without a specific logic, Helsinki mim­
ics the sense of information coming at
you in all directions, like a linguistic DJ
mashing up, words from personal jour­
nal writing, diner party conversations,
sex chats and psychotherapy sessions,
blend together in a monologue of dis­
continuity. Moments of intimacy lose
their significance removed from their
context. Casual statements suddenly
take on profound meaning when sand­
wiched between unrelated phrases.
Helsinki est ‘oldschool spoken-word’
pour les Temps Nouveaux. Composée de
centaines de fragments de textes lus un
à un et sans logique particulière, Helsinki
imite le flux d’information qui vient à
nous de partout en même temps, comme
une sorte de DJ linguistique mixant,
journaux personnels, conversations de
dîners, sex chats, et sessions de psychanalyse, se mélangent dans un monologue
de discontinuité. Des moments d’intimité
perdent leur signification car séparés de
leur contexte. Des formules de tous les
jours prennent une toute autre dimension car sandwichées entre deux phrases
venues dont ne sait où.

Waar komt beweging vandaan? Is het
mogelijk die te scheiden van gedachten?
Zouden ondertitels ons kunnen helpen
om de oorsprong van de beweging beter
te begrijpen? Ergens tussen gespeelde
naïviteit en absurditeit in, ondernemen
Jonas en Madeleine een eerlijke poging
om de dans een stem te geven. Op dit
eigenste moment, waar een onzichtbare
gedachte een zichtbare beweging wordt,
die diverse betekenissen kan krijgen, afhankelijk van de ondertitels…
Where does the movement come from?
Is it possible to separate it from the
thoughts? Could subtitles help us to
better understand the origin of the
movement? Swinging between false
naivety and absurdity, Jonas and
Madeleine are undertaking an honest
attempt to give voice to the dance,
exposing the very moment where an
invisible thought is becoming a vis­
ible movement that can acquire many
different meaning – depending on the
subtitles…
Comment apparait le mouvement? Estil séparé de la pensée ? Est-ce que des
sous-titres pourraient éventuellement
aider à mieux comprendre l’origine du
mouvement ? Oscillant entre fausse
naïveté et tentative absurdes mais honnêtes de donner une voix à la dance,
Jonas et Madeleine exposent ce moment
précis où une pensée invisible devient
un mouvement visible – qui peut encore
acquérir de nombreuses significations,
dépendant des sous-titres…

Monsterlijke Ontmoetingen met
Clowns – een poging om de wereld
te behappen draait rond veiligheid en
gevaar, onzichtbare vijanden en noodtoestanden, conflict en gemeenschap. In
welke mate voeden onze verwachtingen
en vooroordelen onze angst? Hoe gedragen we ons in een omgeving die tegelijk
angstaanjagend en lachwekkend is?
De plaats van actie zou een trainingskamp kunnen zijn, met evenveel gevoel
van dreiging als van samenwerking. Het
publiek gaat en staat waar het wil. Met
een gezonde dosis absurditeit en een
snuifje Do It Yourself brengt Nada het
monsterlijke en het menselijke samen in
een gebeuren dat langzaam de grenzen
verlegt tussen getuigen, spelers, medewerkers en waarnemers.

In this work Nada and her team attack
notions of safety and danger, invisible
enemies states and of emergency, con­
flict and community. To what extent do
our expectations and prejudices feed our
fears? How do we behave in a fearful
context that is at once both scary and
ridiculous?
The space could be perceived as a
training ground where equal portions
of menace and collaboration are main­
tained, the audience is free to move
around. With a healthy dose of absurd­
ity and a flavour of DIY the monstrous
and the human meet and gradually
the work starts to shift the borders
between witnesses, protagonists, col­
laborators and observers. Nada Gambier attaque ici les notions de
sécurité, danger, d’ennemis invisibles et
d’état d’urgence, de conflit et de communauté. Jusqu’à quel point nos attentes et
nos aprioris nourrissent-ils nos peurs ?
Comment nous comportons-nous dans
un contexte plein de craintes, à la fois
ridicule et effrayant ?
Cet espace ouvert qui pourrai être un
camp d’entrainement, où les proportions
de menace et de collaboration sont maintenus à un niveau égal, le public est encouragé à se déplace librement. Avec une dose
salutaire d’absurdité et un goût prononcé
de DIY, le monstrueux et l’humain se rencontrent et perturbent progressivement
les positions de témoins, protagonistes,
collaborateurs et observateurs.

we naar Don Corleone” zegt de man die
The Godfather smeekt om de verkrachter van zijn dochter te vermoorden.
Waarop een intens gesprek volgt over
eer, respect, vriendschap en loyaliteit.
Dit is een duidelijke oproep om “gerechtigheid te laten geschieden”, maar niet
echt volgens de officiële, wettelijke betekenis van het woord. Hoe staat gerechtigheid ten opzichte van justitie; het eigen gevoel van gerechtigheid tegenover
het formele, legale systeem van justitie
dat bedoeld is om recht(vaardigheid) te
vrijwaren in de samenleving?
Voor haar onderzoek naar gerechtigheid raadpleegt Sarah Vanhee een groep
experten die dagelijks geconfronteerd
worden met de frictie tussen deze twee
soorten gerechtigheid: een groep van
langdurige gedetineerden die actief
waren in de ‘onderwereld’, maar berechtigd werden volgens de normen en
regels van de dominante orde. Ze werden veroordeeld door de maatschappij
en beoordelen elkaar en de rest. Sarah
gebruikt film als fictie én om een dialoog te openen over criminaliteit als een
mogelijke manier van leven, over het
beeld van de crimineel in mainstream
media en over een potentieel herstellend soort recht.

D’un sens personnel de la justice ou de
celui plus légal et sensé sauvegarder « la
justice » pour la société tout entière ?
Pour sa recherche sur la justice, Sarah
Vanhee a consulté un panel d’experts
confrontés quotidiennement à ces deux
types de justices : un groupe de détenus
de longue durée qui tous ont été partie
prenante d’un monde parallèle, mais qui
tous ont été jugés par les normes et les
lois de l’ordre dominant. Sarah utilise
des films comme objets fictionnels et
médium afin d’ouvrir un dialogue sur
la criminalité comme moyen de vivre
aujourd’hui, l’image du criminel et une
justice potentiellement réparatrice.

Stroke is een intiem maar hevig dansstuk voor twee dansers, verslaafd aan
adrenaline. Louise Michel en Ben Fury
zetten elkaar en het publiek in vuur en
vlam met deze wat cynische studie over
vervoering. Nu eens bruisend van energie, dan weer lamgeslagen en inert, vaak
grappig en soms met enige pathos. Een
queeste naar euforie voor twee lichamen
met een diepgeworteld verlangen om
te (t)rillen, ergens tussen extase en de­
sillusie in.
Inga & Rósa maken sinds het begin van
hun dansopleiding aan P.A.R.T.S (2010)
jaarlijks minstens één voorstelling samen.
Bewust balancerend op de dunne lijn
tussen het natuurlijke en het artificiële,
gebruiken ze objecten om geluiden te
maken en geluiden om bewegingen te
creëren. Wie of wat heeft hier de touwtjes in handen? Spelend in deze grijze
zone, in The Valley of the uncanny
(het mysterieuze, het bevreemdende),
worden langzaam de dubbele betekenissen zichtbaar van mechanische wezens,
kunstmatige natuur, organische machines en synthetische tuinen…
Inga & Rósa started their collabora­
tion 6 years ago at the start of their
education at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels and
collaborated on at least one dance per­
formance a year ever since.
Playing on the thin line of what
is natural and what is artificial, the
performers use objects to make sounds
and sounds to make movements as they
question what is really in control. By
dwelling in the ambiguous grey zone, in
The Valley of the uncanny, they bring
to focus the double meaning of mechan­
ical humans, artificial nature, organic
machines and synthetic gardens.
Inga & Rosa ont commencé leur collaboration il y a de cela 6 ans au début de
leurs études à PARTS (Bruxelles) et ont
depuis collaboré à au moins un projet de
danse chaque année.
Jouant avec la frontière entre ce qui
est naturel et artificiel, les performers
utilisent des objets pour créer du son et
du son pour créer des mouvements tout
en questionnant ce qui contrôle quoi. En
s’installant dans la zone grise et ambiguë, la vallée de l’étrange étrangeté, elles
mettent en lumière le double sens de la
mécanique humaine, de la nature artificielle, des machines organiques et des
jardins synthétiques.

currently working on. This program is
about sharing knowledge, but also work
method and first of all, enthusiasm!

Stroke is an intimate dance perfor­
mance that traces a poetic chronicle
of an addiction to adrenaline. Between
immoderation and dejection, two
trembling bodies constantly flirt with
a potential source of intoxication.
It is a minimalist study of a quest
for euphoria and enemy of banality,
somewhat cynical, with a touch of
humour, a bit of pathos in the proposi­
tion, where the performers shake their
way to oblivion and embody wings to
elevate themselves. Tension and accu­
mulation remain in this fragile crusade
between rapture and disillusion, with­
out resolution.
Stroke est une performance intime qui
retrace la chronique poétique d’une addiction à l’adrénaline. Entre immodération et déjection, deux corps tremblants
flirtent constamment avec une source
potentielle d’intoxication. C’est une quête
minimaliste de l’euphorie et une bataille
contre la banalité, dans laquelle les performers se secouent jusqu’à l’oubli et se
cherchent des ailes pour s’élever. Tension
et accumulation se tiennent dans cette
fragile croisade entre extase et désillusion, sans résolution.

Après 10 années de travail intense
comme lieu de résidence, nous avons
demandé à tous les artists venus un jour
travailler à BUDA de participer à un
singulier exercice d’imagination. « The
Wonderful Workspace of the Future »

centrum BUDA alle artiesten die ooit
in de Kortrijkse BUDA-studio’s werkten
om deel te nemen aan een bijzondere
‘oefening in verbeelding’. The Wonderful
Workspace of the Future is een impressionante bundeling geworden van reflecties en voorafschaduwingen van kunstenaars over dé perfecte biotoop voor
hun artistieke creatie. Bij de lancering
van dit verjaardag- en inspiratieboek
kijken we niet enkel naar de weg die
we afgelegd hebben als werkplek, maar
speculeren met graagte en meer dan 150
(!) artiesten ook over de toekomst. Wees
