Née en Irlande, à proximité d’une petite ville nommée Castleblayney, Kathy a entamé sa vie active en tant que directrice de théâtre à Dublin travaillant à la fois pour la production professionnelle et pour la jeunesse et les milieux
communautaires.
Elle est par la suite devenue Directeur-Fondateur du premier
programme d’enseignement et de sensibilisation au théâtre
The Abbey et a ensuite pris la relève en tant que Directeur
Artistique du centre culturel Temple Bar à Dublin. Là, elle a
supervisé le programme de développement pour le nouvel
espace de spectacles tout en travaillant avec les Propriétés
du Temple Bar sur le programme de reconstruction de l’espace. En 2002, elle a déménagé en Ecosse pour prendre la
fonction de Directeur du Lemon Tree à Aberdeen, l’un des
lieux les plus aimés et respectés du Royaume-Uni pour les
concerts et spectacles.
Par la suite, dès 2005, elle a travaillé à Liverpool en tant que
Producteur Artistique de Fuse, une troupe de théâtre composée de jeunes. En 2008, elle a dirigé Find Your Talent,
un programme national travaillant avec quatre collectivités
locales de Meyrseyside et huit grandes institutions culturelles de la région pour offrir aux jeunes et aux enfants des
expériences créatives de grande qualité.
En tant que manager du Quays Arts and Cultural Development, Kathy a développé un programme d’événements à
Salford Quays et MediaCityUK, en collaboration avec la
BBC, The Lowry, ITV, l’Université de Salford, les autorités
locales du Grand Manchester, et de nombreuses PME. Elle
a une grande expérience dans le domaine culturel et créatif.
Kathy est devenue CEO du Creative Quarter (CQ) à Nottingham après son lancement en décembre 2012. Le CQ
est un levier pour Nottingham en termes de croissance
économique, entreprises et régénération et est la clé de
l’ambitieux plan de la ville, mis en place pour soutenir la
croissance économique. Depuis son lancement, le CQ a :
• Investi £5.2 millions dans des PME et entreprises ciblées
dans des secteurs prioritaires du CQ à travers Nottingham
Technology et the Nottingham Investement Funds, qui a
levé £13.5 millions d’investissement privé.
• Créé 881 emplois dans la région et préservé 85 emplois.
• Employé 83 apprentis dans la région, et 269 apprentis
dans les secteurs de croissance de la ville.
• Réduit le taux de cellules vides de 50%.
Le CQ a aussi gagné la reconnaissance internationale grâce
aux récompenses obtenues en 2015 dans la catégorie « Improving the Business Environment” du EU European Enterprise Promotion Award et du BIS Enterprising Britain Award.
Born in Ireland, near a small town called Castleblayney, Kathy began her working life as a theatre director in Dublin,
working on both professional productions and in youth and
community settings.
She subsequently became the Founder-Director of the first
Outreach & Education programme at The Abbey Theatre,
Ireland’s national theatre, then took over as Artistic Director of Project Arts centre in Dublin’s Temple Bar. There she
oversaw the capital development programme for the new
Project venue space as well as working with Temple Bar
Properties on the regeneration programme for the area. In
2002, she moved to Scotland to take over the role of Director of The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen, one of the UK’s most
loved and respected music and performance venues.
This was followed by a period in Liverpool from 2005 where
she worked with Fuse, a young people’s theatre company,
as their Artistic Producer. In 2008, she headed up Find Your
Talent, a national programme working with four Merseyside local authorities and eight of the area’s large cultural
and creative institutions to offer young people and children
high-quality creative experiences. In her role as The Quays
Arts and Cultural Development Manager, Kathy developed
a programme of events at Salford Quays and MediaCityUK,
working with the BBC, The Lowry, ITV, University of Salford,
Great Manchester local authorities and a wide range of SME
partners. She has a long history of working as a cultural and
creative industries entrepreneur.
Kathy became CEO of The Creative Quarter (CQ) company
Nottingham following its launch in December 2012. The
CQ is Nottingham’s flagship for economic growth, enterprise and regeneration and is the key focus for the city’s
ambitious Growth Plan, put in place to support economic
growth in the city. Since its inception, the CQ initiative has:
•Invested £5.2 million into SMEs in priority sector companies in The CQ through the Nottingham Technology grant
scheme and The Nottingham Investment Funds, which has
levered in an impressive £13.5 million of other private investment
•Created 881 jobs in the area and safeguarded 85 jobs.
•Employed 83 apprentices in the area, and 269 apprentices
in the city’s growth sectors
•Reduced vacancy rates of retail and leisure businesses by
over 50%
The CQ has also won international recognition as winners
of the EU European Enterprise Promotion Award 2015 in
the Improving the Business Environment category and the
BIS Enterprising Britain Award for 2015 in the Improving the
Business Environment category.
