WHY ARE THE STATUES COVERED?
These last two weeks of Lent are called "Passiontide" time to concentrate almost exclusively on the "Passion" of
Jesus - His suffering and saving death on the Cross. So,
the signs of joy and victory are covered so that we can
meditate directly and purely on His Passion. Since the
images of Mary and the Saints are reminders of the glory
of Jesus - the Communion of the Saints and the power of
their holiness and the comfort of their fraternity come from
the Resurrection of Jesus and the giving of His Spirit they are covered until we celebrate His Victory at
Easter.
From the Fifth Sunday of Lent until the Easter
Vigil, the Church turns her eyes in an intense and
deep meditation on the Suffering Lord. Christian
Life has many dimensions to it. It has a deep joy the joy of knowing the God-Man Jesus. It has
clear light - the light of Jesus' Gospel. It has
profound sorrow - the sorrow of the Crucifixion.
And it has the wonderful victory of Christ - the Resurrection. In order to understand all these dimensions, the
Church divides up the year into times of joy, sorrow and
glory. Advent and Christmas
Time is a meditation on the Joy of the Coming of Christ;
Easter Time is the celebration of His Victory. And Lent
meditates on His Sorrow.
As Lent draws to a close, we hold these last two weeks
- Passion Week and Holy Week - as a time to go through
the tragic events that brought about the Crucifixion. For
the sorrows of Christ did not begin on Good Friday - they
ended there. There were many sorrows before - Pharisees plotting; believers turning away; chief priests filled
with hatred; cowardly Apostles, a denying Apostle,
even a betraying Apostle. And so, we cover over
the signs of victory. We even cover the Cross - so
that we can see the sorrow of the Cross. We
meditate on the Passion and Death of the Son of
God - see how He loves us!
"Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the
desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so
that everyone who believes in Him may have
eternal life. For God so loved the world that He sent
His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him
might not perish but might have eternal life."

LES IMAGES - POURQUOI SONT-ELLES COUVERTES?
On appelle ces dernières deux semaines de Carême le
"Temps de la Passion" - le temps de concentrer presque
exclusivement sur la "Passion" de Jésus - Ses
souffrances et Sa Mort salvifique sur la Croix. Ainsi, les
signes de la joie sont couverts, afin que nous méditions
directement et purement sur Sa Passion. Parce que les
images de Marie et des Saints sont des souvenirs de la
gloire de Jésus - la Communion des Saints et la
puissance de leur sainteté et le confort de leur
fraternité viennent de la Résurrection de Jésus et
du don de Son Esprit - on les couvre jusqu'à lors
où nous célébrons Sa Victoire le jour de Pâque.
Dès le Cinquième Dimanche de Carême jusqu'à
la Veillée Pascale, l'Église fixe ses yeux avec une
méditation intense et profonde sur le Seigneur Qui
souffre. La Vie Chrétienne a beaucoup de
dimensions. Elle a une profonde joie - celle de
connaître le Dieu-Homme, Jésus. Elle a une
lumière claire - celle de l'Évangile de Jésus. Elle a
une profonde douleur - celle de la Crucifixion. Et elle a
une victoire merveilleuse - celle du Christ - la
Résurrection. Pour pouvoir comprendre toutes ces dimensions, l'Église divise l'année dans les temps de la joie, de
la douleur et de la gloire. Le Temps de l'Avent et de Noël

est une méditation sur la Joie de la Venue du Christ. Le
Temps de Pâques est la célébration de Sa Victoire. Et le
Carême est une méditation sur Sa Douleur.
En arrivant à la fin de Carême, nous avons ces deux
semaines -la Semaine de la Passion et la Semaine
Sainte - comme un temps de repasser tous les événements tragiques qui ont réalisé la Crucifixion. Car les
douleurs du Christ ne sont pas commencées le
Vendredi Saint - c'est là qu'elles sont accomplies. Il
y avait beaucoup de douleurs avant - les
Phariséens avec leurs complots; les croyants qui
L'ont laissé; les grands prêtres remplis de la haine;
des Apôtres lâches, un Apôtre qui Le nie; même un
Apôtre qui L'a trahi.
Alors, nous couvrons les images de la victoire.
Nous couvrons même la Croix - afin que nous en
voyions sa douleur. Nous méditons sur la Passion
et la Mort du Fils de Dieu -voyez comme Il nous
aime!
"Comme Moïse éleva le serpent dans le désert, ainsi
faut-il que soit élevé le Fils de l'Homme, afin que
quiconque croit ait par Lui la Vie Éternelle. Car Dieu a
tant aimé le monde qu'Il a donné Son Fils Unique, afin
que quiconque croit en Lui ne se perde pas, mais ait
la Vie Éternelle." (Jean 3.14-16)

Nous accepterons des offrandes en mémoire pour les
Lys de Pâques. Donation: $15.00 pour une petite; $20

¿PORQUÉ ESTÁN CUBIERTAS LAS IMÁGENES?
Estas últimas dos semanas de Cuaresma se llaman el
"Tiempo de la Pasión" - un tiempo para concentrar casi
exclusivamente en la "Pasión" de Jesús - Su sufrimiento y
Muerte salvadora de la Cruz. Así, los signos de la alegría
y la victoria se tapan de manera que meditemos puramente en Su Pasión. Ya que las imágenes de María y los
Santos son recuerdos de la gloria de Jesús - la Comunión
de los Santos y poder de su santidad y el consuelo
de su fraternidad vienen de la Resurrección de
Jesús y del Don del Espíritu - se cubren hasta que
celebremos Su Victoria en Pascua.
Desde el Quinto Domingo de Cuaresma hasta la
Vigilia Pascual, la Iglesia fija sus ojos en una meditación intensa y profunda del Señor Sufriente. La
Vida Cristiana tiene muchas dimensiones. Ella
tiene una profunda alegría - la de conocer al
Hombre-Dios Jesús. Ella tiene una luz clara - la
del Evangelio. Ella tiene un dolor profundo - el
dolor de la Crucifixión.
Y tiene la victoria
maravillosa de Cristo - la Resurrección. Para poder
comprender todas estas dimensiones, la Iglesia divide el
año en tiempos de alegría, de dolor y de gloria. El
Tiempo de Navidad y de Adviento es una meditación en
la Venida de Cristo. El
de la Pascua es la celebración de Su Victoria. Y la
Cuaresma es una meditación en Su Dolor.
Al llegar a su término la Cuaresma, tenemos estas
últimas dos semanas - la Semana de la Pasión y la
Semana Santa - un tiempo para repasar todos los
eventos trágicos que causaron la Crucifixión. Porque los
dolores de Cristo no comenzaron en Viernes Santo - allí
se concluyeron. Había muchos dolores antes - los
Fariseos con sus complotes; los creyentes que Lo
dejaron; los sumos sacerdotes llenos de odio;
Apóstoles cobardes, un Apôstol que Lo negó; aún
un Apóstol que Lo traicionó.
Y por eso, cubrimos las señales de la victoria.
Cubrimos hasta la Cruz - de manera que podamos
ver el dolor de la Cruz. Meditamos en la Pasión y
la Muerte del Hijo de Dios - ¡Cuánto nos amó!
"Así como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el
desierto, así también es necesario que el Hijo
del Hombre sea levantado en lo alto, para que
todo aquel que crea en Él tenga la Vida Eterna. Sí,
tanto amó Dios al mundo que le dio Su Hijo Unico,
para que todo el que crea en Él no se pierda, sino que
tenga la Vida Eterna." (Juan 3.14-16)
