Ymind: Mindfulness training for children with ADHD and ASD and their parents Rachel VAN DER MEULEN & Anne FORMSMA (Amsterdam,NL) Pr o Date et salle : samedi 5 novembre 2016, HUG, Belle-Idée, Les Champs, Genève Horaire : 9h00-17h00 PD F Abstract Children with ADHD [Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder] have problems maintaining attention over prolonged periods of time, have difficulty to hold goals and plans in mind and have difficulty inhibiting a pre-potent response. Children with ASD [Autism Spectrum Disorder] experience difficulty in social interaction, communication and in information processing. Mindfulness training is an intervention based on eastern attention/meditation techniques, which helps developing a wide, open awareness as well as focused attention, and reducing automatic responding. Furthermore, Mindfulness training can help to deal with sensory sensitivity, stress, depression and anxiety. In this workshop the theory and rationale, the program details, and effects of an 8/ 9 sessions mindfulness group training for children and adolescents with ADHD and ASD in mental health care settings, and a parallel Mindful Parenting group training for their parents, is reviewed. By means of meditation practices, in which participants place themselves in the role of either children or parents, the most important practices that we have found to be helpful in teaching mindfulness to children and adolescents with ADHD and ASD, teaching Mindful Parenting to their parents, and working with children and parents together, are demonstrated. Also video examples of group practices are given. References Bögels, S. M., Hellemans, J., van Deursen, S., Römer, M., & van der Meulen, R. (2014).
