Vacuums Suck If it takes a village to raise a child, why are we raising today’s children in vacuums? By Kathy Lynn, BA. CCFE Children are our future, and we need kids who are ready to take over the reins of power. They need to be creative, good problem‐solvers in a quickly changing world, able to assess reasonable risk‐taking ventures and have a good sense of their strengths and weaknesses. Using stories and example Kathy will talk about how we all need to be accountable to our kids and welcome them as part of their and our community. Creating an Environment of….. By Dave Kissinger As individuals interact with others in their “village”, various environments are created. The cumulative efforts of individuals result in the environment of the community. The presentation will deal with two basic questions… 1. WHAT environment does the village choose to pursue? 2. HOW can each individual contribute to the environment the village embraces? Using a lifetime of personal and professional experience Dave will help you find ways you can contribute to creating the environment you desire in your village. A Framework for the 40 Developmental Assets By Dean Munchinsky and Des Snyman All kinds of people are asset builders: parents, nonparents, youth, neighbors, teachers, bus drivers, elder, wealthy, poor, small town residents, farm families…we can all build assets every day, everywhere, as many times as you want. Dean and Des will provide ideas to raise an age friendly community that encourages all individuals to make a difference, no matter who they are or what their lives are like. Kathy Lynn, BA. CCFE Kathy Lynn is Canada’s leading speaker on parenting issues. She has helped thousands of parents to regain some order in their lives by improving their skills as parents. She is a Canadian bestselling author and magazine columnist. She has hosted both an open‐line radio and television program. Dave Kissinger brings a lifetime of learning experiences to share with the audience‐a marriage of 45 plus years with three children and five grandchildren. In 1961 he graduated from Hardin‐Simmons University in Abillene, TX with a B.S. Degree in Education. Dave spent six years as a high school teacher and basketball coach in Bowling Green, Missouri. The next twenty‐eight years were spent in the insurance industry as an Agent, District Manager, Regional Director and Chief Marketing Officer of a major life insurance company. Dave resides in Raleigh, NC and is an active member and leader of Trinity Baptist Church. Dean Munchinsky and Desmond Snyman, from Brandon, and trained by Search Institutes, have been spreading the Assets message of the 40 Developmental Assets Framework across Canada to schools, social service agencies and involved community groups. They have 12 years collective experience working with at risk and homeless youth in the downtown areas of Canadian cities. They have seen destructive youth close to incarceration turn around and become a vital part of their community.
