Senior Writer/Editor (English) One year contract The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is currently recruiting a Senior Writer/Editor for a one year contract. Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Senior Writer/Editor (English) is responsible for developing and integrating persuasive messages and communications products that positively present CFI activities, priorities and positions. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of the CFI and of the Canadian research and innovation landscape. Key Activities • Research and draft strategic and engaging messages used in a wide range of communications products (e.g. Annual Report, success stories, speeches, talking points, etc). • Ensure clarity of messaging and consistency of language across the organization. • Develop compelling and creative content for external audiences. • Ensure quality control of corporate communications products. • Manage all aspects of the editorial processes involved in corporate communications products, including developing editorial calendars, assigning stories to freelance writers and editing the stories. • Liaise with outside suppliers and communications colleagues in funded institutions, as necessary. • Participate in annual planning of the External Relations and Communications workplan and budget. Skills and Knowledge • • • • • • • • Problem solving Post-secondary degree in English, communications, journalism or related field, as well as a minimum of five years experience, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience. Excellent grammar, writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources, work at all levels of the organization, and take complex concepts and communicate them in plain language to a range of lay audiences. In-depth knowledge of the CFI, its mandate, strategic objectives, and operations as well as Canada’s research environment. Ability to write and edit for a range of communication products, such as ads, websites, speeches and other key corporate documents. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software, with an in-depth understanding of up-to-date writing and editing principles, rules, tools, and techniques. Certification by or membership with the Editors Association of Canada is an asset. • • • • • • Knowledge of French (written and verbal) is an asset. Physical Demands • • Ability to focus and concentrate for extended periods of time. This is a full time, headquarters-based position with minimal travel requirements. Salary The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary range for this position is $68,500 to $91,500.
