Post-doc position offered in atmospheric chemistry for 18 months with possible extension of 12 months at the Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques (CNRM, MétéoFrance, in Toulouse, FRANCE) on the « Improvement and evaluation of MOCAGE chemistry in the C-IFS model of ECMWF» -see French version in the next pageContext This post-doc position is offered in the framework of CAMS_42, this project being one of the components of the European program Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service. CAMS_42 is dedicated to the modelling of reactive gases at the global scale in the operational C-IFS model of ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts). More precisely, CNRM is involved in CAMS_42 through the improvement, the evaluation and the operationalisation of C-IFS-MOCAGE. C-IFS-MOCAGE is the version of C-IFS coupled module with the tropospheric and stratospheric chemistry module from the ChemistryTransport model MOCAGE, developed by Météo-France at CNRM. Work description In the frame of the contribution of CNRM to CAMS_42, the objective of the work proposed for this post-doctoral position is to improve the tropospheric chemistry scheme currently used in C-IFS-MOCAGE and to participate to its evaluation. For this, the post-doc will contribute to new developments in C-IFS-MOCAGE, will run numerical simulations and will compare the results to observations, to MOCAGE CTM model and to the two other versions of C-IFS: C-IFS-CB05-BASCOE and C-IFS-MOZART. He/she will also work on the parameterization of surface dry deposition in C-IFS-MOCAGE. Qualifications The candidate must hold a PhD in atmospheric sciences, preferably in atmospheric chemistry. All the tasks require good skills in FORTRAN and Unix, as well as in scientific writing. A previous experience in numerical modelling in atmospheric chemistry and in the use of complex codes on HPC-computers is preferred. Practical information The position starts on March 15th 2017 or the sooner after. The contract will be for 12+6 months with a possibility of extension of 12 months. The net salary proposed is in the range 2600€ to 3200€ per month, depending upon the candidate’s experience. The work will be carried out in Météo-France in Toulouse (France), at the Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques (www.cnrm.meteo.fr). Applications will be received by e-mail only before December 22nd 2017. They must be sent to [email protected] and [email protected], and must contain a scientific CV, a letter of motivations, and at least two persons that may be contacted for recommendation. Any questions and requests should be sent to the same e-mail addresses.
