FIA ERC / PEUGEOT RALLY ACADEMY : La Peugeot Rally Academy à
l’assaut du Barum !
Après deux épreuves difficiles pour toute l’équipe à Ypres et en Estonie,
c’est au grand complet que la Peugeot Rally Academy se présente au Barum Czech Rally Zlìn. Ainsi, Charles Martin, de retour aux commandes de
la Peugeot 208 T16, et Diogo Gago, qui aura à coeur de bien terminer son
programme en FIA ERC Junior, accompagneront leur chef de file, Craig
Breen qui n’aura qu’un seul objectif en tête : obtenir sa quatrième victoire
cette saison !
Epreuve phare du Championnat d’Europe des Rallyes depuis de nombreuses
années, le Barum Czech Rally Zlìn est un évènement populaire incroyable en
République-Tchèque. Disputée sur des routes étroites et bosselées à travers
les nombreuses forêts de la région de Zlìn, le ‘Barum’ arrive à point nommé
pour Craig Breen et Scott Martin. Victorieux de 3 épreuves depuis le début de
la saison et ce, sur trois surfaces différentes, les fers de lance de la Peugeot
Rally Academy n’ont d’autre ambition que la victoire au terme des 230 kilomètres chronométrés prévus au menu de l’épreuve tchèque : « Ce sera ma
troisième participation à cette épreuve difficile où les routes sont très rapides,
étroites et bosselées. En 2014, nous avions rapidement abandonné suite à une
sortie de route donc cette année l’objectif sera de ne pas faire d’erreur et de
marquer des points pour le Championnat suite à nos deux derniers résultats
décevants. J’ai confiance dans toute l ‘équipe pour m’aider à atteindre ces objectifs. »
Au volant d’une deuxième 208 T16, les lauréats de la 208 Rally Cup 2014,
Charles Martin et Thierry Salva piaffent d’impatience à l’idée de renouer avec
la compétition. Auteur de très bons débuts en FIA ERC avec un cinquième
place en Irlande et un top 10 aux Açores sur des épreuves qu’il découvrait,
Charles compte sur l’efficacité redoutable de la Peugeot 208 T16 sur l’asphalte pour accrocher un beau résultat : « Je suis très impatient de retrouver ma
208 T16 pour cette épreuve mythique. Je pense que notre participation en Irlande va beaucoup nous aider à appréhender les spéciales très spécifiques du
Barum. J’ai beaucoup travaillé avant cette épreuve, notamment sur les vidéos.
Mon objectif est de terminer dans le top 5. Je compte également profiter de la
séance d’essai organisée par toute l’équipe de la Peugeot Rally Academy pour
adapter au mieux le set-up de la 208 T16 qui était déjà très rapide sur ces
routes l’an passé . »
Vainqueur ‘Junior ‘ de la 208 Rally Cup 2014, Diogo Gago prendra le départ de
la sixième et dernière course du FIA ERC Junior sous les couleurs officielles de
la Peugeot Rally Academy. Très rapide sur tous les types de terrain depuis le
début de la saison, Diogo Gago et Jorge Carvalho pourront compter sur la
208 R2 qui est ‘LA’ véritable référence en FIA ERC Junior avec pas moins de 10
exemplaires présents sur 14 voitures au départ ! Actuellement sixième au
Championnat, l ‘équipage Portugais, encore en lice pour le titre honorifique de
vice-champion d’Europe FIA ERC Junior, pourra s’appuyer sur l’expertise de la
Peugeot Rally Academy qui avait permis à Stéphane Lefebvre de s’imposer au
‘Barum’ l’an dernier : « Je souhaite avant tout bien terminer cette magnifique
saison disputée sous les couleurs officielles de Peugeot Sport. Pour cela, j’ai
comme ambition de terminer dans les 5 premières places du rallye ce qui me
permettrait de prendre le plus points possible et ainsi remonter au Championnat ! »
Parmi les autres pilotes engagés au volant de la 208 R2, on note également
la présence du Letton Ralfs Sirmacis, vainqueur en Estonie et actuellement
deuxième au classement général. Il devance deux autres 208 R2, celles du
Norvégien Steve Rokland et de l’Anglais Chris Ingram qui est soutenu par
Peugeot UK. Son compatriote Jon Armstrong est également au départ, tout
comme le Suédois Mattias Adielsson, le Belge Joachim Wagemans, le Hongrois Kristof Klausz, le Polonais Lukasz Pieniazek et le Roumain Florin Tincescu, preuve que la 208 R2 séduit les jeunes pilotes aux 4 coins de l’Europe !

FIA ERC / PEUGEOT RALLY ACADEMY: The ‘Barum’ next up for the Peugeot Rally Academy…
After two rounds which proved difficult for the entire team in Belgium
(Ypres) and Estonia, the full Peugeot Rally Academy squad will be out for
this weekend’s Barum Czech Rally Zlìn. Charles Martin returns in his Peugeot 208 T16 and Diogo Gago will be keen to round off his FIA ERC Junior
programme in style, while the sole objective of the team’s spearhead Craig
Breen is to notch up his fourth victory of the season.
The Barum Czech Rally Zlìn has been a leading fixture of the FIA European
Rally Championship (ERC) for many years and stands out as an immensely
popular sporting event in the Czech Republic. It visits narrow, bumpy stages
though the numerous forests of the Zlìn region. After notching up three victories since the beginning of the year on as many different types of surface, the
unique aim of Craig Breen and Scott Martin is to finish on top after the weekend’s 230 kilometres of competitive action. “This will be my third Barum
Czech Rally Zlìn,” he notes. “It’s a tough event – very fast, but narrow and
bumpy. In 2014, we were eliminated quite quickly after an off, so this time I
don’t want to make any mistakes in order to make sure I score points after
our last two disappointing outings. To achieve that, I know I will be able to
count on everyone’s help in the team.”
Also sharing a 208 T16 will be the 2014 208 Rally Cup winners Charles Martin
and Thierry Salva who are eager to taste competitive action once again. After
his strong FIA ERC debut which bagged fifth place in Ireland, followed by a
top-10 finish in the Azores (two events that were new to him), Charles will be
counting on the proven competitiveness of the Peugeot 208 T16 on asphalt to
target another fine result. “I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the 208 T16
for this famous event,” he says. “I think the experience of the Circuit of Ireland
will help us to tackle the Barum Rally’s highly specific stages. I’ve worked
hard to prepare for this rally, especially by watching videos. I’m looking for a
top-five finish and I will use the pre-rally test organised by the Peugeot Rally
Academy to work on the set-up of the 208 T16 which was fast on these roads
last year.”
The 2014 208 Rally Cup’s Junior victor Diogo Gago will line up for the sixth
and final round of the 2015 FIA ERC Junior in the colours of the Peugeot Rally
Academy. After showcasing their speed on all the different types of terrain visited since the start of the season, Diogo Gago and his co-driver Jorge Carvalho will be able to count on the 208 R2 which has emerged as the benchmark car in the Junior ERC series. Indeed, the model accounts for no fewer
than 10 of the class’s 14 entries. The Portuguese crew is currently sixth in the
Junior standings and is still in the chase for runner-up honours. They will be
able to count on the experience of the Peugeot Rally Academy which helped
Stéphane Lefebvre to victory on the ‘Barum’ in 2014. “More than anything
else, I want to end this magnificent programme in the colours of Peugeot
Sport on a high note,” he smiles. “My sights are set on a top-five finish which
would allow me to move up the championship order.”
Fellow 208 R2 runners include Latvia’s Ralfs Sirmaics, winner in Estonia and
currently second in the provisional Junior classification. He leads two other
208 R2 drivers, namely Norway’s Steve Rokland and the Peugeot UK-backed
Chris Ingram. Fellow Briton Jon Armstrong also figures on the list, along with
Sweden’s Mattias Adielsson, Belgium’s Joachim Wagemans, Hungarian driver
Kristof Klausz, Pole Lukasz Pieniazek and Romanian Florin Tincescu, a sign of
the 208 R2’s popularity with young drivers across Europe.
