Prime Minister Abe delivered a policy speech entitled "Japan is Back" at the CSIS during his visit to Washington, in which he highlighted the importance of Japan's strong economy and defense, and supporting her allies in building security, democracy, and prosperity. The inaugural Japan Bowl of Southern California, presented by the Japan America Society of Southern California, will take place on Saturday, March 9th, 2013 at the Four Points by Sheraton LAX. The event enables American high school students to showcase their knowledge of Japan, its language, its history, and its culture. Champions will be awarded a trip to compete in the National Japan Bowl® on April 11‐12, 2013.

The Japan America Society of Southern California, the Nichi Bei Fujin Kai and Love to Nippon Project present this "3.11 Memorial Event: Lessons Learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami". It will be held on March 10th at 2pm at LAPD Headquarters, feature a memorial ceremony, classical dance and musical tributes and activities and sessions on LA's disaster preparedness efforts. The California State Senate has proposed to create an earthquake warning system similar to Japan's, which could allow precious seconds of notice to decelerate trains, bring elevators to safe positions, and warn building managers, schools and the populous of an impending shock. Chihiro Yamanaka in San Diego
