Living in France: A Trip to the Post Office
A
I’m going to the post office tomorrow and I’m quite nervous
B
Well don’t be they’re very helpful
A
I’m sure they are but although I know that the word for stamp is
timbre, I don’t seem to be able to pronounce it properly.
B
No it’s not that easy, listen ... timbre
A
Timbre
B
That’s good / Listen and Try again
A
Right I have some letters to send to England one of which is very
important and I need to know that it has arrived.
B
Well it’s very similar to the UK. You can send a letter as registered mail
– recommandé or recorded delivery – avis de reception but obviously
you have to pay extra as you would in the UK.
A
So recorded delivery is avis de ...
B
Avis de réception

Avis de réception
B
and registered is recommandé
A
Reommandé
B
That’s right
A
I’ve also got a parcel to send but don’t know it’s weight
B
They will weigh it for you and attach the correct postage. All you
need to do is ask serait-il possible de la peser? Will it be possible to
weigh it?
A
Serait-il possible de las peser? Great I’ll give it a try. I don’t feel quite
so nervous now.
