in?” assuming we focus on one particular country. The answer is
that we cover all wine producing countries from Old World classics
to New World stars (we are admittedly short on Romanian Pinot
Noir and the wines of Lanzarote), but our niche is small production,

In addition to ‘carbon footprint’ and ‘climate change’, the term
‘organic’ has surely got to be the buzz word of the noughties. At
Imbibros, we’re in no doubt that ‘organic’ not only reflects reduced
chemical usage but also careful winemaking. Many of the best grape
growers are adopting vineyard management techniques which
maximise the natural control of pests and diseases. This is as good
for the wine as for the environment as it reduces the level of
intervention in the winery even if the grower doesn’t seek organic
certification.
As a young, dynamic company we are delighted to announce our
first ever certified-organic wine listings. This is still virgin territory
for us so the selection below will change and increase in accordance
with demand.

The Sambardier family have
20 hectares under vine on
exceptionally exposed
granite slopes in the
southern Beaujolais hills,
an area where they have
been for generations. The
superb ‘Cuvee Non-Filtre’
is produced from 70-100yr
old vines and, post carbonic
maceration, is aged in oak
foudres and bottled
without filtration. This is
a wine that has restored
our faith in this once
fashionable appellation.

the reins of his father’s
estate in 1987, is one of
Burgundy’s most talented
winemakers. Immeasurably
rich, fine and concentrated,
Grivot’s wines are the optimum
expressions of each of their
individual terroirs in Vosne

Georges. To single out two,
the 2004 Bourgogne Pinot Noir
(£11.95) has a minerally, cherry
palate, and is exciting to
drink now, while the 2003

Italy’s producers must surely have breathed a huge sigh of
excited to introduce Duccio Corsini’s two estates, Fattoria Le
relief with the arrival of the 2004 vintage. Having experienced
Corti in San Casciano and Tenuta Marsiliana in Grosseto to the
torrential rain in 2002 and oppressive 45 degree heat in
south of the region know as Maremma. The former produces
2003 which challenged all but the most diligent of producers,
two breathtaking Chianti Classicos and the latter, some fabulous
2004 saw a welcome return to more even conditions and
Cabernet/Merlot blends. There will be an introductory offer

The pace of change in the Spanish wine industry in recent years

are stocked with an embarrassment
of riches.
I love all of the wines of Vega
Sicilia (Pintia, Alion, Valbuena and
Unico, not to mention Oremus in
Hungary) and I will long remember
a superb dinner in Valladolid of
Lechazo washed down with copious
quantities of Alion. Perhaps my
own version of Anthony Hopkins’
favoured fava beans and Chianti.

– on one hand the branded and own label wines which sell
in huge quantities through the supermarkets and mass mailing
businesses, and which have been tremendously successful in
making Australia the leading wine importer to the UK, on

Sherry is one of the most underrated wines. With the British
palate having been polluted by branded Creams, it can be a
challenge to approach the drier styles with an open mind and
a winning food match. Our range spans the driest and the
sweetest, and a great deal in between. The bone dry Manzanilla

and Finos are wines which cry out for a bowl of pistachios and
slices of serrano, while Lustau’s Almacenistas are Jerez’s equivalent
of excellent single vineyard wines.
Our Pedro Ximenez wines are divinely rich and intensely
sweet with flavours of molasses and dried fruits. It seems
astonishing that wines of this complexity can be so easily
affordable.
When it comes to Port in front of the open fire, we include
wines from the pioneering Dirk Niepoort and dynamic Ramos
Pinto. Back these up with excellent mature vintages from the
best houses and you will have the perfect partner for any stilton.
Our Madeira starts and finishes with Barbeito. From a slice
of cake to a hunk of cheese these wines are awesome.
