Citrouille biologique ti-nou
You can easily have a 300 kg pumpkin if you follow these tips. The growth period is about 150 days. It starts as a baby but quickly grows into a giant. This year, I’ll start germinating them indoors on April 25th indoors, transfering them outside in May. Two months later, around the end of June, the fruit will appear. At the end of July, the pumpkin might weigh about 100 kg. It’s in August that the real fun begins. That’s the most important month for growth, when you can easily reach 300 kg. In September, she’ll mature into a queen. You can see your pumpkin gaining up to 15 kg per day. In my garden, the soil is ready. Remember your pumpkin will need lots of space. Give yourself a surface of about 900 ft2 (100 m2). I make a hole about 24 inches (66 cm) deep by 6 ft (2 m) in diameter and replace that soil with my compost. As your queen grows, cover the stem with soil to help it root well but especially to protect it from the wind. For maintenance of the plant, keep the main stem and secondary branches while removing the tertiary branches. Around the end of July or early August, cut the end of the vines and bury them. Your fruit should be on the main stem, about 3 metres along. Perfect! Concentrate on this fruit, removing all the others. Keep just one fruit per plant. This fruit might grow at 45 degrees to the stem, and you’ll need to turn it to 90 degrees, just a little bit, each day. Imagine it at 300 kg! You’ll also need to protect it from the sun. If you take it upon yourself to grow a pumpkin, try to give it a good life. For us to have good lives, we need water, food, care and love, so compare pumpkins to ourselves. You’ll need a lot of water. Provide it with food. Don’t forget care, and especially love. I tell myself: “If I were a pumpkin, what would I want?” If you follow these suggestions, you will give your pumpkin a healthy life without stress, like a human who lives to the age of 100 in good health.
