What is Bullying?
Many young people have a good idea of what bullying is because they see
it every day! Bullying happens when someone hurts or scares another
person on purpose and the person being bullied has a hard time
defending themselves. So, everyone needs to get involved to help stop it.
Bullying is wrong! It is behaviour that makes the person being bullied feel
afraid or uncomfortable. There are many ways that young people bully
each other, even if they don’t realize it at the time.
Some of these include:
• Punching, shoving and other acts that hurt people physically
• Spreading bad rumours about people
• Keeping certain people out of a group
• Teasing people in a mean way
• Getting certain people to "gang up" on others
The four most common types of bullying are:
• Verbal bullying - name-calling, sarcasm, teasing, spreading rumours,
threatening, making negative references to one’s culture, ethnicity,
race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation, unwanted sexual
comments.
• Social Bullying - mobbing, scapegoating, excluding others from a
group, humiliating others with public gestures or graffiti intended to
put others down.
• Physical Bullying - hitting, poking, pinching, chasing, shoving,
coercing, destroying or stealing belongings, unwanted sexual
touching.
• Cyber Bullying - using the internet or text messaging to
intimidate, put-down,
spread rumours or make
fun of someone.

What are the effects of bullying ?
Bullying makes people upset. It can make them feel lonely, unhappy and
frightened. It can make them feel unsafe and think there must be
something wrong with them. Young people can lose confidence and may
not want to go to school anymore. It may even make them sick.
Some people think bullying is just part of growing up and a way for
young people to learn to stick up for themselves. But bullying can have
long-term physical and psychological consequences.
Some of these include:
•Withdrawal from family and school activities, wanting to be left alone.
•Shyness
•Stomachaches
•Headaches
•Panic Attacks
•Not being able to sleep
•Sleeping too much
•Being exhausted
•Nightmares
If bullying isn’t stopped, it also hurts the bystanders, as well as the
person who bullies others. Bystanders are afraid they could be the next
victim. Even if they feel badly for the person being bullied, they avoid
getting involved in order to protect themselves or because they aren’t
sure what to do.
Young people who learn they can get away with violence and aggression
continue to do so in adulthood. They have a higher chance of getting
involved in dating aggression, sexual harassment and criminal behaviour
later in life.
Bullying can have an effect on learning
Stress and anxiety caused by bullying and harassment
can make it more difficult for young people to learn. It
can cause difficulty in concentration and decrease their
ability to focus, which affects their ability to remember

What is Bullying?

Bullying can lead to more serious concerns. Bullying is painful and
humiliating, and young people who are bullied feel embarrassed, battered
and shamed. If the pain is not relieved, bullying can even lead to
consideration of suicide or violent behaviour.
How common is bullying?
Approximately one in 10 children have bullied others and as many as 25%
in grades four to six have been bullied. A 2004 study published in the
medical Journal of Pediatrics found that about one in seven Canadian
children aged 11 to 16 are victims of bullying. Studies have found bullying
occurs once every seven minutes on the schoolground and once every 25
minutes in the classroom.
In the majority of cases, bullying stops within 10 seconds when peers
intervene, or do not support the bullying behaviour.
Students are most vulnerable to bullying during transitions from
elementary to junior high school, and from junior to senior high school.
There is a correlation between increased supervision and decreased
bullying. Bullies stop when adults are around.

What are the myths about bullying?
Myth #1 - "Kids have got to learn to stand up for themselves."
Reality - Young people who get up the courage to complain about being
bullied are saying they’ve tried and can’t cope with the situation on their
own. Treat bullying complaints as a call for help. In addition to offering
support, it can be helpful to provide bullying victems with problem solving
and assertiveness training to assist them in dealing with difficult
situations.
Myth #2 - "You should hit back - only harder."
Reality - This could cause serious harm. People who bully are often bigger
and more powerful than their victims. This also gives young people the
idea that violence is a legitimate way to solve problems. Young people
learn how to bully by watching adults use their power for aggression.
Adults have the opportunity to set a good example by teaching young
people how to solve problems by using their power in appropriate ways.
Myth #3 - "It builds character."
Reality - Young people who are bullied repeatedly, have low self-esteem
and do not trust others. Bullying damages a person’s self-concept.
Myth #4 - "Sticks and stones can break your bones but words can
never hurt you."
Reality - Scars left by name-calling can last a lifetime.
Myth #5 - "That’s not bullying. They’re just teasing."
Reality - Vicious taunting hurts and should be stopped.
Myth #6 - "There have always been bullies and there always will be."
Reality - By working together as parents, teachers and students we have
the power to change things and create a better future. As a leading
expert, Shelley Hymel, says, "It takes a whole nation to change a culture".
Let’s work together to change attitudes about bullying. After all, bullying
is not a discipline issue - it is a teaching moment.
Myth #7 - "Kids will be kids."
Reality - Bullying is a learned behaviour. Young people may be imitating
aggressive behaviour they have seen on television, in movies or at home.
Research shows that 93% of video games reward violent behaviour.
Additional findings show that 25% of boys aged 12 to 17 regularly visit
gore and hate internet sites, but that media literacy classes decreased the
boys’ viewing of violence, as well as their acts of violence in the
schoolyard. It is important for adults to discuss violence in the media
with youth, so they can learn how to keep it in context. There is a need to
focus on changing attitudes toward violence.

Qu’est-ce Que L’intimidation ?
Beaucoup d’enfants savent bien ce qu’est l’intimidation, car ils en sont
témoins tous les jours! L’intimidation se produit lorsqu’une personne fait
mal ou fait peur à un autre volontairement, et que la personne intimidée a
du mal à se défendre. C’est pourquoi tout le monde doit faire sa part pour
y mettre fin. Il ne faut pas intimider! C’est un comportement qui fait peur à
la personne intimidée ou qui la met mal à l’aise. Les jeunes intimident les
uns les autres de toutes sortes de façons, même s’ils ne s’en rendent pas
compte sur le moment.
En voici quelques-unes :
• Frapper, bousculer et autres actes qui font physiquement mal à la
personne
• Faire circuler des rumeurs négatives sur une personne
• Tenir certaines personnes à l’écart du groupe
• Taquiner une personne de façon méchante
• Pousser des personnes à s’unir contre une autre
Les quatre types d’intimidation les plus communs sont :
• Intimidation verbale - insultes, sarcasme, taquinerie, rumeurs,
menaces, références négatives à la culture, l’ethnicité, la race, la
religion, le genre ou l’orientation sexuelle d’une personne, et les
commentaires sexuels indésirables.
• Intimidation sociale – menacer une personne en groupe, en faire un
bouc émissaire, exclure la personne du groupe, humilier une personne
par des gestes publics ou des graffitis destinés à l’abaisser.
• Intimidation physique – frapper, pousser du doigt, pincer, poursuivre,
bousculer, forcer une personne, détruire ou voler ses biens,
la toucher sexuellement de
façon indésirable.
• Intimidation en ligne –
utiliser l’Internet ou la
messagerie texte pour
intimider ou déprécier une
personne, se moquer d’elle
ou encore faire circuler des
rumeurs à son sujet.

Quels sont les effets de l’intimidation ?
L’intimidation trouble et dérange. À cause de l’intimidation, les enfants
peuvent se sentir solitaires, malheureux et effrayés. Ils peuvent ne pas se
sentir en sécurité. Ils peuvent penser que le problème vient d’eux. Ils
peuvent perdre confiance en eux-mêmes et ne plus vouloir aller à l’école.
L’intimidation peut même les rendre malades.
Il y a des gens qui pensent que l’intimidation est un phénomène normal
pour un jeune qui grandit, et qu’elle peut lui apprendre à se défendre et à
tenir leur place. Mais l’intimidation peut avoir des conséquences
physiques et psychologiques durables, telles que :
•Retrait des activités familiales et scolaires, désir d’être seul
•Timidité
•Maux de ventre
•Maux de tête
•Crise de panique
•Ne pas pouvoir dormir
•Dormir trop longtemps
•Épuisement
•Cauchemars
Si l’intimidation se poursuit, elle affecte également les spectateurs, de
même que l’intimidateur. Les spectateurs craignent de devenir la prochaine
victime. Même s’ils ont de la peine pour la personne intimidée, ils ne
veulent pas s’en mêler, pour se protéger et parce qu’ils ne sont pas très
sûrs de pouvoir faire quelque chose.
Les enfants qui apprennent qu’ils peuvent recourir à la violence sans que
cela ait de conséquences continuent à le faire à l’âge adulte. Ils ont plus de
risques de se retrouver dans des situations de violence de couple, de
harcèlement sexuel et de comportement criminel plus tard
dans leur vie.
L’intimidation peut avoir un effet sur l’apprentissage
Le stress et l’anxiété causés par l’intimidation et le
harcèlement peuvent rendre l’apprentissage plus

L’intimidation peut conduire à des préoccupations plus graves.
L’intimidation est douloureuse et humiliante, et les enfants qui subissent
l’intimidation se sentent gênés, maltraités et honteux. Si la douleur
demeure, l’intimidation peut même les conduire à envisager le suicide ou
un comportement violent.
L’intimidation est-elle courante ?
Environ un enfant sur 10 en a intimidé d’autres. Près de 25 % des enfants
de quatrième à sixième année primaire ont été victimes d’intimidation. Une
étude de 2004 parue dans la revue médicale Journal of Pediatrics conclut
qu’un enfant canadien âgé de 11 à 16 ans sur sept a été victime
d’intimidation. Les études démontrent que l’intimidation se produit toutes
les sept minutes sur le terrain de jeu et toutes les 25 minutes en classe.
Dans la majorité des cas, l’intimidation cesse dans les 10 secondes
lorsque les pairs interviennent ou ne soutiennent pas le comportement
d’intimidation.
Les étudiants sont plus vulnérables à l’intimidation lors des transitions,
de l’élémentaire au secondaire, et du premier cycle du secondaire au
deuxième.
Une supervision accrue signifie moins d’intimidation. Les intimidateurs

Quels sont les mythes à propos de l’intimidation ?
Mythe #1 – « Les enfants doivent apprendre à se défendre par eux-mêmes et à tenir leur place. »
Réalité – Un enfant qui trouve le courage de se plaindre d’avoir été intimidé est en train de
vous dire qu’il a essayé et qu’il ne parvient pas à faire face à la situation tout seul. Traitez
sa plainte comme un appel au secours. En plus de lui offrir du soutien, il peut être utile
d’offrir à l’enfant de la formation en résolution de problèmes et de la formation à
l’affirmation de la personnalité pour l’aider à affronter les situations difficiles.
Mythe #2 – « L’enfant qui est frappé devrait frapper à son tour, mais plus fort. »
Réalité – Cela peut causer de sérieux dommages. Les intimidateurs sont souvent plus
grands et plus forts que leurs victimes. De plus, cela donne aux enfants l’impression que
le recours à la violence est une façon légitime de résoudre les problèmes. Les enfants
apprennent à intimider en voyant les adultes utiliser leur pouvoir à des fins d’agression.
Les adultes ont l’occasion de donner le bon exemple en apprenant aux enfants comment
résoudre les problèmes en utilisant leur pouvoir de la bonne façon.
Mythe #3 – « Cela forme le caractère. »
Réalité – Un enfant qui est victime d’intimidation de façon répétée perd son estime de soi
et ne fait pas confiance aux autres. L’intimidation endommage la façon dont la personne
se perçoit.
Mythe #4 – « Les coups peuvent me faire mal, mais les paroles ne m’atteignent pas. »
Réalité – Les insultes peuvent vous marquer pour la vie.
Myth #5 - « Ce n’est pas de l’intimidation, Ils taquineries seulement. »
Réalité – La moquerie malveillante blesse, et elle ne doit pas être tolérée.
Mythe #6 – « Il y a toujours eu de l’intimidation et il y en aura toujours. »
Réalité – Si nous travaillons tous ensemble, parents, professeurs et étudiants, nous
avons le pouvoir de faire changer les choses et de créer un meilleur avenir pour nos
enfants. Une des plus grandes expertes du domaine, Shelley Hymel, déclare : « Il faut
toute une nation pour changer une culture. » Travaillons ensemble à changer les attitudes
sur l’intimidation. Après tout, l’intimidation n’est pas une question disciplinaire, elle est
une occasion d’enseigner quelque chose.

compréhension des médias réduisent la consommation de violence en ligne de la part des
garçons, ainsi que leur violence sur le terrainde jeu. Il est important pour les adultes de
discuter la violence dans les médias avec les jeunes afin qu’ils apprennent à la voir et à la
comprendre en contexte. Il faut se concentrer sur le changement des attitudes vis-à-vis
de la violence.

What Every Student Needs to Know
About Bullying
Bullying is never okay. Here’s how you can be a student against bullying!
Bullying can happen anyplace—in the schoolyard, on the bus, in the hallways, even
in the bathroom.
Bullying can be lots of things. It is hitting, pushing, name calling, threatening,
teasing, sending mean e-mails, taking or ruining another person’s things, leaving
someone out—and lots of other nasty stuff that’s done on purpose to hurt someone.
How can you tell if it’s bullying? Just remember this:
It’s bullying if...
Someone is hurting another person on purpose
and
the person who is doing it has more power.
Bullying is not cool and it’s not fair. No one deserves to be bullied.
What can you do if you are being bullied or see bullying happen? A lot!
Speak Up!
•When someone is willing to say they think something is wrong, they can make a
difference. If you tell other students that bullying is not cool, they will be more
willing to speak up, too.
•If you see bullying, you can tell an adult. Telling is not tattling. It’s okay to tell.
Reach Out!
•Tell the student who is being bullied that they don’t deserve to be treated that
way. No one does.
•Ask your friends to join you in being a student against bullying.
Be a Friend!
•Invite the student who is being bullied to hang out with you.
•Create a “bully-free zone” in the schoolyard where
everyone is welcome.

L’intimidation n’est jamais acceptable. Voici comment vous pouvez être un enfant
contre l’intimidation!
L’intimidation peut se produire n’importe où sur le terrain de jeu, dans le bus, dans
les couloirs, même dans la salle de bain.
L’intimidation peut être beaucoup de choses. C’est frapper, pousser, injurier,
menacer, se moquer, l’envoi d’e-mails, prendre ou ruiner les choses d’une autre
personne, exclure quelqu’un – et bien d’autres choses désagréables faites exprès
pour blesser quelqu’un.
Comment pouvez-vous dire si quelqu’un intimide? Rappelez-vous ceci :
C’est de l’intimidation si ...
Quelqu’un maltraite une autre personne expressément
et
l’enfant qui le fait a plus de pouvoir.
L’intimidation n’est pas cool et ce n’est pas juste. Personne ne mérite d’être intimidé.
Que pouvez-vous faire si vous êtres victime d’intimidation ou vous observez d’autres
personnes qui se font harceler? Beaucoup!
•Quand quelqu’un est prêt à dire que quelque chose ne va pas, il peut faire une
différence. Si vous dites à d’autres enfants que l’intimidation n’est pas cool, ils
seront plus enclins à parler aussi.
•Si vous voyez l’intimidation, vous pouvez le dire à un adulte. Raconter n’est pas
dénoncer. Il est correct de dire.
•Dites à l’enfant qui est victime d’intimidation qu’il ne mérite pas d’être traité de
cette façon. Personne ne mérite ça.
•Demandez à vos amis de vous joindre pour devenir un enfant contre
l’intimidation.
•Invitez l’enfant qui est victime d’intimidation à
jouer avec vous.
•Créez une « zone libre d’intimidation » sur le terrain
de jeu où tout le monde est le bienvenu.

HOW YOU CAN HELP STOP CYBERBULLYING
 Make sure you and your friends are using proper netiquette
when using the Internet. This means being kind, courteous,
honest and polite when online.
 Don’t forward hurtful email to your friends.
 Don’t allow your friends to take cell phone photos or videos of
the personal moments of others.
 Don’t visit sites that are defamatory and put down other
students.
 Speak out against cyberbullying, particularly if you are in a chat
room.
 Don’t buy into the vicious rumours that are spread online to
destroy a student’s reputation. Stand up for that student online
and in person.
 Report cyberbullying to a trusted adult such as a teacher,
someone in administration or your parents.
 If you know someone is being threatened online, call the police.
 Call the providers of Internet and cell phone services and report
cyberbullying.
 Don’t do or say anything online that you would not say in person.
 Protect your password and make sure you know who someone
is before you add them to your friend list.
 Remember what you post online stays online forever.
 Create open forums in your school to raise awareness of the
issue of cyberbullying.

 Don’t engage in online exchanges with cyberbullies and
encourage your friends not to either.
 Don’t erase or delete messages – they can be saved in a file if
you need them for evidence when you are making a report
against a cyberbully.
 Block the sender’s email—right click on the address—click on
block.
 Stand up for your friends who are targeted.
 Refuse to go along with bullying or harassment—youth who laugh, agree




or cheer only encourage the behaviour. Instead, take the side of the
youth who is being targeted.
Be assertive but not aggressive.
Using insults or fighting back will make the situation worse.
Gather your friends to help speak out against bullying and harassment.
Always make sure you are safe. If it is not safe to intervene, report what
you see or hear to an adult.
 Ask your school to form an anti-bullying committee with representation
from teachers, parents and students. Collectively, you can make a big
difference!

 Ne transmettez pas de messages nuisibles à vos amis.

 Dénoncez la cyberintimidation, plus particulièrement si vous êtes dans

Here are some things to try and some things to remember if
you’re being harassed and want it to stop.
Some things to try
• Talk to someone you trust, like your parents, a friend, a teacher, a counsellor,
or coach. They can offer support and help develop a plan to end the
harassment.
• Think about how your behaviour may be making the problem bigger or
smaller.
• Ignore the bullying and walk away… make them think you just don’t care
• Laugh it off… humour shows you’re not bothered.
• Stay close to students you can count on to stick up for you.
• Stay away from areas where bullying tends to happen.
• Act confident… hold your head up, make eye contact, walk confidently.
• Make the time to do things that help you feel good about yourself.
Some things to remember
• You’re not alone… lots of teens struggle with bullying and harassment.
• Do what’s right… carrying a weapon might get you in trouble.
• Keep your cool and walk away, even though you might be upset.
• Share your feelings with people you trust… you don’t have to struggle alone.
• It’s not your fault… no one deserves to be bullied.
• Be assertive, not aggressive… fighting back can make things worse.
It’s okay to ask for help… you don’t have to solve
this problem on your own.

• Pensez à comment votre comportement peut rendre le problème plus ou
moins important.

• Riez de cela ... l’humour montre que vous n’êtes pas dérangé.
• Restez près des étudiants sur lesquels vous pouvez compter quant à leur
support.
• Restez loin des zones où l’intimidation a tendance à se produire.
• Agissez avec confiance ... tête haute, établissez un contact visuel et marchez
avec confiance.
• Prenez le temps de faire des choses qui vous aident à vous sentir bien.

• Vous n’êtes pas seul ... beaucoup d’adolescents luttent contre l’intimidation
et le harcèlement.
• Faites ce qui est juste ... une arme pourrait vous causer des ennuis.
• Gardez le sang froid et quittez, même si vous êtes bouleversé.
• Partagez vos sentiments avec des gens en qui vous avez confiance ... vous
n’avez pas à lutter seul.
• Ce n’est pas de votre faute ... personne ne mérite d’être intimidé.
• Soyez sûr, pas agressif ... vous bagarrer peut aggraver les choses.
Il est normal de demander de l’aide ... vous n’avez pas à résoudre ce
problème par vous-même.

Here are some things to try and some things to remember if you see
others being harassed and you want to make it stop.
Some things to try
• Talk to someone you trust, like your parents, a friend, a teacher, a
counselor, or coach. It’s their job to intervene and make the bullying stop.
• Walk away and get help… if you stay and watch, you’re part of the
problem. If you get help, you’re part of the solution.
• Be assertive, not aggressive… speaking out helps, fighting and insulting
others doesn’t.
• Ask for help from friends in speaking out against harassment… there’s
strength in numbers.
• Make an anonymous report to school staff if it’s too hard to speak out
publicly.
• Invite the student being harassed to leave the situation with you.
• Be aware… wouldn’t you want someone to step in if you were being
harassed?
• Avoid encouraging the harassment by watching and laughing… send the
message that you don’t like what’s going on. Turn away, don’t watch.
• It only takes one person to take a stand before others will follow their lead.
Have the courage to be that person.
• Stand up for others who are targeted… they may not be able to do it for
themselves.
• Stay safe… if speaking out doesn’t make the bullying stop, get help from
someone who can safely intervene.
• Violence and harassment is everyone’s problem and we all have to get
involved if it’s going to stop.

•Demandez de l’aide auprès d’amis en se prononçant contre le harcèlement ...

•Faites un rapport anonyme au personnel scolaire si c’est trop difficile de se
prononcer publiquement.
•Invitez l’élève victime de harcèlement de quitter la situation avec vous.
•Soyez conscient ... ne voudriez-vous pas qu’on intervienne si vous étiez victime
d’harcèlement?
•Évitez d’encourager le harcèlement en regardant et en riant ... envoyez le message
que vous n’aimez pas ce qui se passe. Détournez-vous, ne regardez pas.
•Il suffit qu’une personne prenne position avant que d’autres suivent leur
exemple. Ayez le courage d’être cette personne.
•Avancez-vous pour d’autres qui sont ciblés ... ils ne sont peut-être pas en
mesure de le faire pour eux-mêmes.
•Protégez-vous ... si parler ne fait pas cesser l’intimidation, obtenez l’aide de
quelqu’un qui peut intervenir en toute sécurité.
•La violence et le harcèlement est le problème de tous et nous devons tous
participer pour que ceux-ci s’arrêtent.

• Take responsibility for what you’ve done and the students you may have hurt.
• Remember that everyone is unique and different… different doesn’t mean
worse or better than you.
• Know that just because others watch and laugh, it doesn’t mean they like it
when you target others.
• Avoid using stereotypes and labels. See people as individuals, not as sexist,
racist, and other stereotypes.
• It’s okay to ask for help.
• You don’t have to do this on your own… it’s hard to change.

Even though you say that you’re sorry, or try to fix the paper and smooth
things over, many scars are left behind.
Those scars will never go away, no matter what you do to fix the piece of
paper.
This is what happens when someone bullies another person, even though
they say that they are sorry, THE SCARS REMAIN FOREVER!

ABOUT CYBERBULLYING
Maybe you've heard it called drama, gossip, trolling or just plain hate.
Whatever name it goes by, cyberbullying is serious. It really hurts the people who it targets,
and affects every aspect of their lives. In some cases, it has even led to tragedy. Cyberbullying
is happening to more and more teens every day. No one deserves it, and we can all do more
to stop it.
Simply put, cyberbullying happens when people use computers, cellphones or other devices
to embarrass, humiliate, torment, threaten or harass someone else. Children as young as age
eight have done it, but it most commonly occurs among teenagers.
Cyberbullying usually takes the form of continuous abuse over a period of time. But whether
it's the sharing of one humiliating photo or 1,000 hateful text messages, cyberbullying is toxic.
It destroys the reputations, happiness, and feelings of self-worth of too many teens. It's so
stressful, it can even affect the mental health of the person it's targeting.
A big problem with cyberbullying is that because it's delivered through electronic devices, it
can get to people anywhere and at anytime. Unlike face-to-face bullying, where the victim may
at least be able to escape the physical situation, cyberbullying can reach them walking home
from school, alone in their bedroom, or even on a family vacation. It can be hard to get away
from it or ignore it.
And because it can spread so quickly, to such a huge audience, cyberbullying has already
involved a great number of teens, whether as the victim, the person who is bullying, the silent
observer, or as someone who participates from the sidelines and becomes part of the problem.
Where do you fit in?
There are so many ways that cyberbullying is carried out, and it can change or adapt as quickly
as new technologies and sites emerge. Here are some of the more common ways that
cyberbullying happens among Canadian teens:

CYBERINTIMIDATION
Peut-être l'as-tu entendu appelé « drame », « potins », « trollage » ou
simplement « haine ».
Peu importe le nom qu'on lui donne, la cyberintimidation est grave. Elle peut vraiment blesser
les personnes ciblées et touche tous les aspects de leur vie. Dans certains cas, elle a même
mené à des tragédies. Chaque jour, de plus en plus d'adolescents subissent la
cyberintimidation. Personne ne mérite ça, et nous pouvons tous en faire plus pour y mettre
fin.
En d'autres termes, la cyberintimidation survient lorsque des personnes utilisent des
ordinateurs, des téléphones cellulaires ou d'autres appareils pour embarrasser, humilier,
tourmenter, menacer ou harceler une autre personne. Des enfants âgés d'aussi peu que huit
ans l'ont commise, mais la majorité des cas se produit habituellement chez les adolescents.
La cyberintimidation prend habituellement la forme d'un abus continuel sur une période de
temps. Mais que ce soit le partage d'une photo humiliante ou l'envoi de 1 000 messages textes
haineux, la cyberintimidation est toxique. Elle détruit la réputation, le bonheur et la confiance
en soi de beaucoup trop d'adolescents. C'est tellement stressant que ça peut même nuire à
la santé mentale de la personne ciblée.
Un gros problème avec la cyberintimidation, c'est qu'elle peut atteindre les gens n'importe où
et n'importe quand, car elle est exécutée au moyen d'appareils électroniques. Contrairement
à l'intimidation en personne, où la victime peut au moins s'échapper de la situation physique,
la cyberintimidation peut les atteindre lorsqu'ils retournent à la maison après l'école, sont seuls
dans leur chambre ou même pendant des vacances en famille. Il peut être difficile d'y échapper
ou de l'ignorer.
Et parce qu'elle peut se répandre si rapidement, à un si grand public, la cyberintimidation a
déjà impliqué beaucoup d'ados, que ce soit la victime, l'intimidateur, le spectateur silencieux
ou le participant secondaire, et devient une partie du problème.

simplement pour constater que ces renseignements ont été communiqués à un vaste

• Des sondages sur Internet ou des systèmes d'évaluation sont créés afin de se moquer
d'une personne ou de la ridiculiser.
• On se ligue contre une personne dans les jeux sur Internet, son personnage étant sans
cesse ciblé et menacé.

You have the power to keep yourself safe online, and to help stop
cyberbullying when it happens to others.
• Use your privacy settings. Find out how to keep your content as private
as possible on the sites you use. Check these privacy settings often,
because they can change.
• You may feel pressure to share photos, selfies or other details about
yourself. Maybe a boyfriend, girlfriend, or even friends are pressuring
you to do it. Before you send an image of yourself, stop and think
whether it's something you'd want everyone to see. In the wrong
hands, any photo could be used in a way you never intended.
• Think before you post anything online.
• Keep personal online identifying details about yourself, such as your
address, date of birth, phone number, school, credit card number, etc.

• Log out of online accounts when not using them. Saving passwords in
form fields within web sites or your web browser, and staying logged
on when you walk away from your computer or cell phone can present
an opportunity for someone to pretend they're you online.
• Talk to your friends about cyberbullying. Support those who've been
targeted, and if you know anyone who cyberbullies, tell them to stop it.
• Search your own name in every major search engine frequently,
including in an image search. If any personal information or photo
comes up that might be used by online haters, try to have it removed.
• If you see negative comments toward someone else online, refuse to
participate, and take a stand. Cyberbullying continues when others
either play along, or do nothing. So surprise them by offering support to
the person they're targeting, and speaking out against the hate online.

Utilise tes paramètres de confidentialité. Apprends comment faire pour
protéger la confidentialité de ton contenu le plus possible dans les sites que tu
utilises. Vérifie souvent ces réglages de confidentialité parce qu'ils peuvent
changer.
Tu peux te sentir contraint à partager des photos, des autoportraits ou des
détails à ton sujet. Peut-être que c'est un ami ou une amie de cœur, ou même
des amis qui te contraignent à le faire. Avant d'envoyer une image de toimême, arrête et demande-toi si c'est une image que tu voudrais que tout le
monde voie. Entre les mauvaises mains, toute photo pourrait être utilisée
d'une manière que tu n'as jamais voulu.
Pense avant d'afficher quoi que ce soit sur Internet.
Protège la confidentialité des renseignements d'identification sur Internet à ton
sujet, comme ton adresse, ta date de naissance, ton numéro de téléphone, ton
école, ton numéro de carte de crédit, etc. Et protège le secret de tes mots de
passe aussi.
Ferme ta session de comptes sur Internet quand tu ne les utilises pas.
Enregistrer les mots de passe dans des zones de formulaires de sites Web et sur
ton navigateur Web, et garder une session active alors que tu t'éloignes de ton
ordinateur ou de ton téléphone cellulaire risque de donner l'occasion à
quelqu'un de se faire passer pour toi sur Internet.
Parle à tes amis à propos de la cyberintimidation. Appuie ceux qui sont ciblés,
et si tu sais qui sont les auteurs de la cyberintimidation, dis-leur d'arrêter.
Cherche souvent ton nom dans tous les moteurs de recherche principaux, y
compris une recherche d'images. Si des renseignements personnels ou des
images s'affichent, qui pourraient être utilisés par des intimidateurs sur
Internet, essaie de les faire retirer.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, the Chipman/Minto/Cambridge Narrows P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent
Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth) program was held. The P.A.R.T.Y. program
promotes injury prevention through reality education, enabling youth to recognize risk
and make informed choices about their activities and behaviors. The program has been
offered to local grade 9 students since 2002, and to date has been delivered to 1600

Does your organization need funding for your
Crime Prevention project?
The Crime Prevention Association of New Brunswick is offering a Community Crime Prevention Grant.
This funding opportunity is being provided in the form of a grant of up to $1,000 per project and is available to
eligible communities and community crime prevention initiatives in New Brunswick.
Projects MUST:
 follow the CPANB Social Value Statement by striving to “build safe and healthy communities through cross
sector partnerships to advance knowledge transfer, research and best practices”.
 promote crime prevention initiatives within the province of New Brunswick.
Requests for funding from individual sponsors will not be considered.
